I keep hearing that there aren't any taxis based in El Cotillo. Doesn't mean you can't phone for one, though.

928 163 004 for taxis in Antigua, you call, they come, you cannot pre book and you don't need to tell them where you are going over the phone, just where you are.

But do you have to pay for their journey to you?  Cotillo is in La Oliva, and I think the nearest taxi rank is in Corralejo, so that would be extortionate for a local Cotillo taxi ride.

Depending on exactly where you are staying there may well be a decent restaurant within comfortable walking distance.

Anyone know the answer to my earlier question? If you phone for a cab in Cotillo, do you have pay for its trip from Corralejo to get to you? If so it would make it prohibitive to use a taxi for a trip from one part of Cotillo to another.

I can't see any alternative to paying for the time and fuel the driver uses though. Why would s/he do it for free?

I'm not sure it would be appropriate for the OP's honeymoon but there's an awful lot of hitchhiking between Tamaragua and Corralejo (about 4 km). We often stop to help people out.

We got a taxi last month and ordered it in Canela cafe. We usually walk it but one of our company had a foot problem.They informed us behind the bar that the taxi firm are duty bound to have a car for use within the area. A seven seater turned up within 10 minutes, and took us about a mile up the road in the same village. Cost us 3.50 euros. Needless to say he got a very good tip and didn't seem at all put out by the short journey. Might be the same in Cotillo.

PS... he even drove up our dodgy unmade road. Thats service for you.

Another thought -

There is a taxi rank in El cotillo bu the football ground but i have only seen a taxi on it once in 15 years of visiting.
Therefore nobody calls it.
There is obviously enough demand, judging by this topic.

How does one break the deadlock?

By trying to phone one i imagine. Be interesting to see how long it took to arrive and the cost. I've often driven to Cotillo and not had a beer (while the wife has enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine). I must try phoning a cab from a restaurant or bar there on my next visit and see the outcome. Only trouble is if they won't come there its a long long walk home.

Well if it's just to see, then drive down..call the cab and see  if they come..let them take Jackie home, and you drive the car back

Bus into Corralejo and cab back.  Buses are reliable.
