New to the Island

We are a couple who will be celebrating their silver wedding anniversary next August and are hoping to visit Fuerteventura for our anniversary. We have joined this forum in the hope to learn as much as we can about your Island before our visit.
As this will be our first holiday without the children, we have discussed trying to get an ‘all over tan` for the first time and we were wondering if anyone could recommend a fairly quiet beach that does not have lots of people walking past all the time. Ideally, we would like a beach that is close to a good hotel but is within walking distance of a clothes optional beach.

Sorry Jimbo, but decent beaches within walking distance of a good hotel, tend to attract a lot of footfall. I would recomend renting a car to expand your options.

Some of the large hotels in the South such as the Fuerteventura Princess, are located on very long beaches, so if you are prepared to walk North about 20min, it is a lot quieter. However, if you want a beach to yourself, apart from   the odd German camper van, you will need a car.

The FP also has a decent size naturist area for days when it is too windy to hit the beach

I'd second the suggestion for beaches in the south.  There are some fairly quiet beaches which have beautiful soft sand, easy entry to the water for swimming, and would be ideal for your introduction to naturism.

My suggestion would be to rent a hire car at the airport (PlusCar), stay in Costa Calma, and drive 10 minutes south to Mal Nombre or El Salmo beaches.  If you do a Google Images search you'll see how lovely they are!

My wife & I usually stay in the VIK Suite Hotel in Costa Calma.  This has individual "pod"-like detached rooms, which are very well-appointed, and each room has a totally private courtyard with sunbeds and an outdoor shower, so you can sunbathe naked in total privacy if you prefer.

Being a North Fuerteventura fan myself, I would suggest one of the smaller coves north of the village of El Cotillo. These are well off the beaten track and therefore attract very few passers by a high proportion of whom will be naked.
You would either need a hire car or to be staying in El Cotillo, Corralejo or one of the villages on the bus route between the two.
If the latter then the really quiet coves are up to a mile north of the bus terminus in El Cotillo. The bus service is hourly  from Corralejo bus station.

The Magic Life at Esquinzo in the south is alongside a beach much used by naturists. Most people wandering along will be looking for a spot to top up their own all-over tan, no gawpers anyway. A good beach for a dip as well. Other hotels are around - Ambar Beach, etc. My colleague recently stayed at Magic Life, he spoke very highly of it.

The beach changes throughout the year depending what the Atlantic has done to it.  It can be glorious sand or blasted back to bedrock.  Quieter parts are available if you head North, however we can't be bothered. We have found the best compromise is the end of the sunbed section just North of the Hobicats.  The sunbeds there are used by naturists & it gives easy access to the sea.

OK, you do get textiles marching up & down the shoreline, we usually give the odd rubberneck & cheery wave! Only ever come across one well dodgy type in all our years of going there. He was run off by three irate German's in no time at all.

I really think that Jimjo is not going to get 100% of his wish list. Unless he rents a car, I would say that his best bet is "Strength in numbers"

Thank you for all for taking the time to reply to my query, it's really appreciated. Ideally, we will like to be on a beach without having to hire a car. Having looked at all your suggestions and checking out the various hotels my wife likes the look of the Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas.
My only concern is as we are hoping this will be our first time trying out naturism, i didn`t want the beach to be too busy for my wife to feel comfortable. So my next question, will it be quieter if we came out of the hotel and walked left along the beach towards Corralejo. Or, right towards the sand dunes?

Go out of term time which, with Spanish, German and British school holidays, means keep clear of July and August

As far as the beach is concerned, north towards Corraleo is quieter but windier.  Go south and you have to go past all the non-naturists to get to the naturist part.

A valid point, I missed the bit about August in the original post. Going at that time includes two flights from hell.

One of the big plus points of using naturist accommodation or hotels that have a naturist area, is that there are fewer kids around & the ones that are there are better behaved. Or is that a generalisation?

I would recommend Hotel Meliá Gorriones, in the south of the island.

Don't know how crowded this beach might be in August, but I have been there numerous times and it has always been almost as deserted as in this picture:

On a quiet beach your wife would be one of only a few , whereas on a busy beach there will be many nude women . The busier the beach the better we would suggest , it was our first nude experience in Fuerteventura several years ago and the fact there were loads of nude people about made it feel very normal , which is the feeling you are after , we think .

Same here MinRich. We were staying at the Sol Elite Gorriones as itwas at that time. We walked towards Costa Calma along the beach & found ourselves smack in the middle of a nudist beach. This was near where the H10 hotels are now located. Anyway, we stopped & gave it a go & have never looked back.

The Tre Islas is as good choice being on the Corralejo dunes. As everyone else points out walk south past the Oliva Beach and from  our experience a few weeks ago it is about 300 yards to where the naturist sunbeds start. A hint though is to use the sun beds and not lie on the sand if it is windy (usually) to prevent being sandblasted. We are like Minrich and Magoo and started nude sunbathing about 8 years ago and now really enjoy it. You will find that like minded people are very sociable without being overpowering or a nuisance, and you will soon have no problem being nude. It is also a good idea to go on a sunbed on a regular basis for a few months before you go if you cant sunbathe naked at home to (a) give you a bit of colour and (b) not having white bits when you first strip off. Look at our item under the El Cotillo dunes in August theme though, but Corralejo dunes were still popular when we were there. Tee Shirt and swimwear off, lie down and enjoy it, you will wonder why you haven't done it before.

Hi, i know its different from the above posts but i believe its a woman's prerogative to change her mind. My wife has decided she likes the look of Jandia Princess so we have now booked it for next June. Being the old romantic that i am, does anyone know if the sun happens to set over the water?

Yes it does set over the water, unfortunately not any water you can see from a hotel on the east facing coast!

We have seen spectacular sunsets over the mountains. Coming up the coast road to Corralejo where the mountain is close to the road We stopped and got some fantastic pictures. The dust in the air really changed the light colours. We have seen good sunsets in Corralejo if you get high enough. So you probably get the same down south.

No easy solution without a rental car. You can drive to Costa Calma & then take the West coast road to La Pared. If you have the cojones, you can drive down the Jandea peninsula & then head up the mountain pass to Cofete. There is a cracking view point at the top which would give a great view of the sunset.

   Have you thought of going in uk winter time?
It is still hot enough to be naked on the beaches to get your all over tan.
We always go in the winter it not so busy and it is plenty hot enough for us.
Oliva Beach Hotel is our base and the main beach is so big if you go up into the dunes you can be on your own. You will get a few people on walk about in the dunes but just ignore them.
Not busy at all in January and February and prices are lower book for two weeks and see how much cheaper it is than just going for two separate weeks holiday.
Been going to this location for past 14 years and have always had a magic time and great tan.
