It's probably been posted here before (the subject) but I've never felt the need to book a seat on RA.... until...  I'm bringing my grandson back for summer hols so had to book that all 3 of us were sat together. We got the front seats BUT what I didnt realise was that it included priority boarding,,,so say if someone books priority boarding do they get to pick seat allocation or do you just get it automatically if you book seat allocation?

No, I don't think ifs you specify priority boarding that you will be able to book seats.
It's the other way round, if you book seats you sometimes get priority boarding, but I am sure that on one flight I tried to book seats I had to pay extra for this.
I don't really see any reasons for booking just priority boarding unless you book seats, because you will get seats allocated to you anyway - only reason is that you are more likely to get your hand luggage on the plane rather than in the hold.
Having said that I never book seats, always get seats together and have always got my hand luggage on the plane.

Blimey Hev you've done well there They are normally for the pilot. Regarding priority boarding its cheaper than picking your own seat, although you do get an allocated seat. Its was a bit of a nightmare Thursday coming back for one family of 3 who all had separate seats including the 3 year old, the bloke weren't Appy

We're off to Vera Playa on the mainland next weekend, and I did online check-in today.  I'd booked seats, as we like to sit at the front (get drinks quicker!), but I see from the boarding passes that we have priority boarding too.

They now automatically give priority boarding to those sitting in the front half of the plane so they can board through the front doors and those sitting in the back get non priority so they board through the rear doors.  8)

Priority boarding is worthless now as everyone is allocated a seat number. If you want an extra legroom seat, or wish to make sure you get to sit together as a group then you have the choice of paying for that privilege. The problem now is to make sure there is room for your bag and it doesn't have to go in the hold. With the extra handbag allowance there is even less room than before.  ;D

Don't follow your logic.  If there's less room than before, surely priority boarding has an attraction?

Don't think this is true. I've just been allocated seats at the front(ish) of the plane and not got priority boarding.. I think you only get priority boarding if you pay to reserve seats at the front.

So isnt that why you pay for priority boarding you are 1st on the plane and there is plenty of room for you bag

Indeed, that's the only reason for paying for priority boarding, although we have found at Edinburgh Airport gates they try very hard to get you to put your hand luggage in the hold(free of charge).
What they don't tell you is that you may have to wait up to an hour for it to appear on the carousel at the other end!
At Fuerteventura Airport however they just don't seem to care! Even Prioirty Boarding is not really so because if you are not at the gate as soon as the flight is called they just let the 'other' Q go anyway.

Maybe they changed again, but when we travelled in Feb/Mar we got priority boarding automatically and were issued with seats in the front of the plane when we checked in online. It didn't cost us a penny extra. Maybe they were losing too much money.

I flew out May with them booked the front row for extra leg room one of the 1st on plane and 1st off it was great  ;D non priority certainly didnt get on at the same time at Liverpool or at Fuerte on the way back

I have just checked in with R A. I asked for a random seat both ways. I was told no random seat available on flight home, so it cost me 10euro to book the seat. Feck them. They have to get their credit card charges someway. It is so annoying.

Priority boarding, on first , more chance of getting your hand luggage in the lockers. Great.  It's also a great way to turn a four hour flight into a 5 hour flight!
Personally i'd rather hit my seat just before it taxi's away!!
I wonder if I could ask Ryanair to add an extra tick box to their seating plan page, so that when you choose your seat, if you have tourettes of the legs and are going to have trouble not kicking the seat in front, then you tick the box. This would allow like minded people to sit together and those strange people who don't want a kicking to sit elsewhere!!    ;) ;)
