Naturist Beaches

I've noticed one or two comments on here regarding a naturist friendly beach bar just north of the hotels in the Corralejo dunes. I've always travelled to just south of the hotels before getting naked. What's the situation about nudity north of the hotels then ?

There are no dividing lines here. The only "rule" is a self-imposed one that prevents naturists stripping off on town beaches and in front of hotels that don't themselves cater for naturists. Anywhere else, nobody can complain if you just act as a normal beach-goer would. Unfortunately, some of the people who sunbathe naked here are not naturists but rather exhibitionists who give the rest of us a bad name. But there are quite a few true naturists here who, like us, will happily undress on what appears to be a 100% textile beach away from the aforementioned areas. Quite often we notice that others follow our lead - they were just shy and were only too happy for us to set an example.

To underline the point about people stripping off as soon as somebody else does, I always walk naked from my Fuerteventura beach-side apartment to the sea when I want a swim.
Quite often the beach is 100% textile when I start my swim but when I emerge the beach is sometimes as much as 50% naturist - and they are the same people.

Haven't had that experience on the beach yet, but have noticed this was true when I stay at Maravilla. Totally textile upon arrival, but within or day or so of me being a naturist, it is a greater than 50% of the women who shed their clothes, yet rarely the men.

Flag beach yesterday - not a single nudist. Hardly anyone topless ! Lots of Italians parading up and down in their ridiculous and inappropriate designer outfits trying to look cool ( like outside the coffee shops springing up in Corrie). And before anyone chips in with "someone has to strip off first" why is this not the case south of the hotels ?

Isn't it just due to the date?

July and August are very different from the other months, even when the weather isn't much different. More people on the beaches; fewer in the bars, etc.

Summer tourists often want to maximise their beach time and won't walk further than absolutely necessary. They don't mind being on a crowded beach if they have to walk to be alone. So they're more of a flock than individuals. And you know what sheep are like: whatever the perceived leaders do, the rest are sure to follow.

I'm generalising wildly of course, but there does seem to be a difference. Fewer independent individuals around during these two months, and the ones that are here stay away from the flocks.

I'm not sure it's shyness. Not everybody knows what's allowed. Unless an area is sign posted you can only go by what others are doing.

On the self imposed rule. You need to think about what happened in Barcelona and how the city keeps trying to restrict things even further. Self imposed rules like that just make it easier for politicians to push people into smaller and smaller ghettos.
