in my opinion first series was best, then the scriptwriter left after the second series. To me it got a bit too silly after that, but the original scriptwriter returned for the last series, and I think it got itself back on track.

Yes, I thought that the last series was good. Probably better restricted to half an hour

Could be right, if you mean 24 half hour instead of 12 one hour episodes, otherwise would be to expensive to go on location for 12 half hour.
