How To Fit More In Your Luggage

You may, or may not, have seen or heard about Vacuum Storage Bags. We wanted to bring some fleece blankets over without bringing a suitcase so I thought I would give them a try.

I have managed to get 2 singles and a king size blanket into a Ryanair hand luggage sized bag.

So long as you are still within the weight limit, these allow you to get much more stuff in your bag.

There is one drawback, if you intend bringing stuff home again, you will need to find a vacuum cleaner to pack it all in again. 

We have one in our place.

We used them to great effect when we came out for a visit prior to moving out here. We came out with our absolute maximum: 2 maximum-weight suitcases each, maximum hand luggage allowance and a guitar booked into a separate seat. Just our luck that there was a general strike in Spain and the check-in desks were closed, meaning that everything had to be taken upstairs at Barcelona where you can't take trolleys. It must have been funny to watch but I'm afraid we had a temporary blind-spot to humour.

It is that need for a vacuum cleaner that makes things dodgier for the return journey. Maybe a couple of hours spent sucking out the air would do the trick though.

Sheila I'd advise you to get one of the 4 wheel IT Luggage spinner cases. Even at full capacity (20kgs) it can be literally pushed along with one finger..no need for lugging it along, no need for trolleys. Best thing we ever bought

I fetched nearly everything for our house over in vac bags!! Towels, duvets, pillows! Amazing and cheap!!

Maybe you don't need to bring your vacuum cleaner to pack for the return.

Foot or hand operated blowey-uppy things for your airbed and stuff often have a sucky option as well. Usually just poke the hose into a different hole in it. Can't be any harder than blowing up a lilo.

blowey-uppy things are sometimes labelled "Inflator for Beach Toys" or "Airbed Pump". Probably get one in any beach shop, or the dreaded chinese stores. Just make sure it's got 2 orifices for the hosey thing, otherwise it won't suck. Foot pumps are a better bet than the tall stirrup pump types or it'll take up all the space you saved.

Our local newsagent in the UK is selling hand-roll vacuum bags. It seems you put the stuff in and seal them, then roll tightly to expel the air through a one-way valve. No vacuum needed. Doubtless they can be found on the internet.
