Positive nudism stories involving Fuerteventura

Many Fuerteventura Forum members, especially those of us who enjoy the more natural aspects of the island, take great joy in posting the dates she, he or they will be returning to Fuerteventura. Since I am never sure if my most recent visit will be my last, I have often found such announcements annoying. Now that I know that my return dates have been set, I look forward in reading announcements from others. Hopefully you do too.

But to celebrate the purchase of the plane ticket (and hopefully the transfer of funds for the deposit of the accommodations), it would please me if people would write about a positive nudism story involving Fuerteventura.

For me, two events come to mind. Both are personal, but the more amusing one involves other nudists. I was staying in El Cotillo and I met this incredibly nice couple from England. He loved to barbecue in the nude. Where else on the island can you watch the sunset, drink good wine, talk with friends and barbecue all in the nude? Several time I sat with them. Sometimes for hours. We discussed our families, helping children get started in their careers, choices we had made, often as as he would barbeque. While we had wine, at no time would I feel intoxicated. However, I was completely at peace in the setting. I developed the sense that this was the norm.

Now you with think that as someone who is lives in the nude than more than 99.9999999% of the population, I would be completely comfortable with my nudity and the nudity of others. And yet, since nudity is not the norm, regardless of the situation, there is always some sense of anxiety - a sense that I'm not in the normal state of being. But I was comfortable with their nudity and they clearly were comfortable with mine. And during one of these chit-chats, I started to get hungry, which is not surprising since it was 9 PM. And so I wave good-bye, jumped in the car and headed to a local restaurant across El Cotillo.

It wasn't until I had passed several folks on the sidewalk and was about half way through town that it dawned on me.. maybe I should put some clothes on for dinner.

Of course I had a great laugh, but it made me think. For the vast majority of humans, achieving a sense of nirvana with clothes on might seem "natural", and yet for me, I never had never achieved such a state wearing clothes. Maybe that is why I am a nudist.

When I returned to California, the good lady SoCal noticed my state of reduced anxiety. That is why she is telling me to return after being away for 2 years - so that, hopefully, I can re-archive the sense of being completely at peace.

There truly is something special about the environment we call Fuerteventura.

We would not be described as Naturists but enjoy being on the beach in the nude . We have only practiced this behaviour for around 15 years , so since we were 35ish . We have found that the people around us on the beaches we visit who are also nude are alot more friendly than those we experienced on beaches where they were generally clothed . Why this is i do not know but we will always look to have beach holidays where we can be nude , infact since we first became nude bathers we have not been anywhere else other than Fuerteventura . We have tried to find other places to go but none appear as Nude friendly as Fuerteventura .

The South of France appears to be one area we may visit but the holiday season when you can be nude on the beach is so short and this makes the cost prohibitive . La Jenny on the SW coast appeals but its a naturist camp and we don't want to be nude all day , shoppping , eating , cycling etc . Same as all the other places that are Naturist camps , so we are left with finding Nude Beaches only .

Moving on from the above we find that being in the nude for some people means Sex and this is reflected in the areas that are Nude bathing friendly . Why is this ? We find that this attitude of some makes an area deteriorate so much that those not interested avoid it . An example of this is the bays north of El Cotillo where we used to go , now there are so many Gay men wandering around that me (Rich) do not feel comfortable walking north of where we stay at El Caleton , have others been put off by this behaviour ? I have also found similar in Maspalomas Dunes and a place to be avoided .

Anyway we are back at El Cotillo in 6 weeks

Good afternoon Minrich,

we can recognize ourselves in your words. Therefore we do think that, like us, you certainly would enjoy the South of Crete beaches around Plakias, Paleochora, Sougia, Hora sfakion, Agios Pavlos, Kommos, Matala.

This really has nothing to do with this Fuerteventura forum, but you will find there the same spirit of quietness in the nature that we all appreciate in Fuerte. Just a tipp !

Hi MinRich My wife and I only started to come to Fuerteventura in 2000 I was always I interested in being a naturist but only had the opportunity to practice being one on a handful of times at Studland.
We came to Fuerteventura and have never been any were else it is so natural hear and so relaxing being naked every day for two weeks in the sun.
My wife had never attempted being a naturist before coming hear, but now she loved that great feeling of being on the beach naked in the sun. We walk up the beach and make camp we both strip off completely and she loves to read a book and I walk the beach and dunes taking pictures. Our beach of choice is near Corralejo near the two large Riu Hotels on the dunes mile after mile of fine golden sands.

We have met some Gay people that are a bit scary looking with lots of piercings , but also some very nice people that are Gay.
Each to your own way of life as long as they do not bother us ,its no bother to us at all.
Live and let live is our moto.
We have had men stand close to the wife and I just look at us, we just ignore them and we would not let this bother us in to moving.
Just look at them back at them and they move on.
They are only lonely and are looking for company.
That usually has the effect needed to move them on.
Most of the Gay men that we have come across seem to be German and If you try and talk to them they mumble some thing in German and as soon as they find out you are English they move on.
We have met some English Gays in the hotel and they were very friendly so would expect the Germans are also friendly also.

Not long now before we are back on the island in two weeks.

The big pleasure in being naked on the beach, surrounded by other naked people is that nobody takes any notice of you.
On the busy, predominantly textile beaches, like La Concha at ElCotillo or the town beaches in Corralejo, the same on our own local beaches, everone seems to spend the entire time checking each other out. You're constantly being watched.
Get on to a naturist beach and you're virtually ignored. As soon as you're naked there's nothing left to see. You're all equal under the sun. So relaxing.

I agree, nothing like being naked all day on the beach and so relaxing you feel liberated and at one with ones self with the sun beating down on you whole body gives you that feeling of being alive.
The scirocco blowing on your whole body without any cloths is an experience not to be missed, nothing in life compares with that feeling of freedom of walking naked up the beach and dunes.
Getting all excited at the thought of doing this in less than two weeks, can not wait.

Thanks so much for this thread, SoCal. It's a real breath of fresh air.

I'd live 24/7 without clothes, in fact my husband does when he's at home, but I feel the cold. Still, living here does mean there's an awful lot of time that's naturist-friendly even for me. I just don't see why there's so much fuss about naturism. Nobody makes a fuss when they see a chimp without clothes; what's the difference, really? Why can't we wear clothes for protection from the elements, for safety reasons and for those occasions when we want to look our best, and not wear them when they don't serve any useful purpose? Some people wear so little on the beach, yet make so much fuss about having to hide 1 or 3 tiny parts of their anatomy (squirming around under a towel to change etc) that it's simply ridiculous.

I really appreciate the fact that most Fuerteventura beaches are neither textile nor naturist - they're just beaches! Everyone's free to cover up (in sand- and salt-encrusted, damp fabric triangles) or be as nature intended. That's even more natural than being on a "naturist-only" beach.

As for looking and being looked at, as SueandRob say(s), it just doesn't happen among true naturists. After a few days, you've seen it all! My brother teased me unmercifully until he was over 60 and had a really major operation that left a metre-long scar. He found he could no longer take his T-shirt off on textile beaches for the staring, whispering, frowning etc. When he accidentally found himself on a naturist beach in Spain he took his shirt off and found nobody bothered (maybe a brief expression of sympathy but that was all); they didn't bother when he took his trunks off, either. I've seen the same (lack of) reaction to those who've had mastectomies and colostomies, paraplegics and the severely mentally handicapped, too. When you're displaying your own lumps and bumps you don't worry too much about other people's.

What a nice cheerful thread. I have not noticed any problems at the lagoons in El Cotillo but it sounds as if it will be busy with us lot in the next few weeks

I'll be on the beach and my wife usually prefers the roof terrace back at the apartment. I am easy to spot as I'll be naked.

I know the others above have summed it up, but one story that I have related in the past, is worth repeating here. A few years ago now, we were on the lagoons at El Cotillo and saw a young man, on crutches with only one leg..Looked like an ex serviceman, but the wonderful thing was the naturists treated him for what he was...another human being. People, myself included, passed the time of day with him and chatted pleasantly, as naturists do. No one stared, no one tried to hide the kids from the sight, no one disapproved and no one asked stupid questions...

For just a few hours, this disadvantage lad was among friends, life was as it should have been and for just a while he was `First among Equals`....Take a bow naturists, your the best

Its not as if its problems , it just makes me feel uncomfortable and people in the area (All Naturist) appear to be staring at these men and as i am walking alone they are staring at me too , which is unusual for a Naturist area , is it not ?

Well Sueudrob sorry I was not saying that anyone with piercings was gay or scary. Just my observation and perception that some look a bit scary.
In fact I have fancied having a piercing myself but I am not brave enough.

One other thing that I would like to know do you have to remove all intimate piercings from your body

before going through the airport body scanner?

Nah, I always keep my jewellery in at security. Set the scanner off every time. Getting frisked is the best part of the journey

We won't be out till beginning of October, our usual week at El Caleton, then a week at Infiniti, so won't be scaring anyone just yet. We just have to make do with our secluded garden and local naturist beach if we get any sunny Sandays. Enjoy your time in the sun while you can

Another reason to celebrate nudity in Fuerteventura - we can wear what we desire or not what we desire and people are so accepting.

Thanks to all who have been posting on this thread. It has been very enjoyable to read about positive experiences. In a world where the news is dominated by the unaccepting, it is nice to know that nudists treat other humans with respect. Maybe it is because to 99.99999% of the world, we naturists are viewed as perverts.

But to us, we are just humans.

(Note - a thanks to those who may not be naturists, but are accepting like Lady SoCal. While she enjoys the occasional skinny dipping (much better without the suit), she prefers to keep her clothes on under most situations. Yet she happily designed and created a modesty screen so that I can work in the yard in private and she told me to go to Fuerteventura where she knows I am very happy being nude 23 out of 24 hours of the day. )

Although the Cotillo Lagos lagoon seems to be moving towards 100% textile,I have no problems or adverse reactions when I walk down naked from Maravilla to have a swim so it seems that the invading textiles are far more nudity tolerant than some of us believe.
All the same, a few more naturists staying in Cotillo Lagos and Sunset and walking from the apartment to the beach wrapped only in a towel would be very welcome.

Will second your experience that textiles at Cotillo lagoons, even the ones with children, pretty much ignore us naturists. But of course I don't hang out there and they may be more accepting of the occasional dip and less of camping out for the day.

As far as Cotillo Lagos and Sunset goes, my sense is that neither is particularly naturist supportive. On the other hand, El Bacon appears to be sufficiently laid-back (or lacking in apartment dwellers) that one should feel comfortable walking from the apartment to the beach, regardless which apartment one stays in.

We, too, see the single men walking around, looking at everyone.
You say gay men, without really being able to tell, But I don't want to debate that.
A lot of the solo males will be just walking around, enjoying the day. Some will be voyeurs, enjoying naked people, hoping, perhaps, to see some live sex. (unlikely, but still worth a looki). In the quieter parts, some may get bold, and either approach you, or indulge in a bit of onanism from a distance.
I have to say, that's more of a problem on our local beach than in Fuerte.
It does mean, though, that many people get on edge as any single man passes close.
For us, it's simply second nature to stare coldly at them, as a way of discouraging contact. I'm sure that many others do the same, and if you walk alone, you'll probably be on the receiving end.
Having said all that, I enjoy my walks, though I do tend to keep as far away as I can from other people - it's the place I want to look at, not people.

I've never, on Fuerte, found an area of beach where I've been made to feel uncomfortable and not want to be.

We love being on the naturist lagoon beaches of El Cotillo whenever we are in Fuerteventura. One of my favourite memories is the Christmas / New Year break a few years ago. There was a large group of naturists near our secluded little spot. They were barbecuing, socialising and playing music. When the Time Warp started to play, they all did an impromptu performance of the dance! If only I had a photo, I would post it on here!

I have just returned from a lovely 2 weeks in Fuerte. 1 week spent in El Cotillo when I managed to get to the Lagoons on a few occasions. (The inclement weather keeping me away on a couple of days)
My wife prefers the apartment sun terrace to the beach and I therefore go to the beach alone and relax for awhile then go for a walk, naturist of course.
There has been a bit of misunderstanding or overgeneralisation of "single" men walking along the beach.
Personally, I enjoy the walk and love to be in the vicinity, or company of fellow naturists, so, please try to understand that we all have a common interest and a right to be on the beach.
Finally, from my take on the popularity of naturism in El Cotillo, it does seem that naturism is indeed becoming more seldom seen towards the village and is receding towards what we know as the lagoons.
Going for a walk naked should be done by more of us to preserve our little bit of heaven and to ensure that people know that naturism is alive and kicking on the beaches around El Cotillo.

Time to revive this thread.

I have already posted in another thread the story of the famous El Cotillo nudist lady who helped out the two mothers by taking their kids to the lagoon where the waves were calmer. Good job energetic nudist lady.

Here is one involving me. A new apartment dweller at my naturist friendly compex was outside sitting in way to be somewhat topless. As I passed her on my way to the bakery, I complemented this mid-aged German speaking women on being a nudist and said that the complex was naturist friendly. At the time I was wearing shorts (sorry JG) and she really didn't fully comprehend what I was saying. Upon returning to the complex and climbing up the steps which would cause me to pass her patio, I was properly non-clothed. Upon seeing me and hearing me say "See, no need for clothing", she somewhat dropped her wrap leaving her nude. It was early in the day and she asked me about places to swim. I pointed out several lagoons to the north. I then went to my apartment and picked up some extra money for the supermercado and then headed out. And when I reached the stairs again, there I saw this lady skinny dipping in one of the lagoons right in front. She was incredibly happy. She was very excited and had a huge smile on her face. Why not? Skinny dipping is a great feeling.

It was great to be able to help someone enjoy a positive nudist moment.

Wish I could have been more help Tel. Don't forget to rent a car & take a look at the huge beaches of the South, between Costa Calma & Morro Jable. You can either take the west coast mountain route with it's views & bum nipper section, or the faster east cost route past the airport.

If you are a happy go lucky type with no regard for small print on car hire contracts, Cofette will blow you away (Literally if you are unlucky with the wind) It is probably the most spectacular beach on Fuerty & worth a place on any Naturist's bucket list. However, rule No1 is don't go swimming here unless you have a death wish.
