Hi All

Just back from 10days lazing in the sun. Fantastic  :)

No sooner home and the property Buildings and Contents Insurance renewal quote arrived from Intasure for £160 for a studio apartment in Costa Calma.

Seems to have crept up steadilly over the years and I have never tested the market to finder other competative quotes.

Can anyone suggest other Insurers that will offer cover as a holiday home whilst still living in UK??

Many Thanks

Keith

Have you looked at the AA for holiday home insurance?

http://www.theaa.com/insurance/holiday-home-insurance.html

If you look here you can get discount for being an AA member
http://www.theaa.com/insurance/news/happy-holiday-home-away.html

The price was more than 100 euros cheaper than Ibex.

Also if you have a dispute with them as its a UK product you can chase problems through the small claims court.

Like a lot of people I thought buying something which I thought was "local" ment that claims would be so much easier. However as we have both found that reason can not justify buying the product as the claims process is just not smooth but in fact probably worse than using a UK based product. The assessors used by the "local" products are probably the same ones as the UK products ( they seem to have to come from Gran Canaria!).

I recommend everyone to save some money and buy through the AA or another UK based insurance company as you can put more pressure on them if you do have problems.

Just had quote for €230 for non-rented holiday home through Ibex from Robert at AISL.  House with €130000 rebuild cost and €15000 contents.  Decided to check AA.  They said £137, so approx €160.
But AA wants UK style locks on all windows and patio doors. That's not the norm in Ferty so it will be Ibex again this year.

Ibex require lockable security locks on windows & doors as do  other company's, they wont pay out if you have to claim.

Hi,
Try Chris Ward at Liberty Siguros tel no: 669114175. A nice guy, not pushy, easy to deal with and he will come to see you in your property, plus we got a better level of cover a lot cheaper. We were with Ibex but when the renewal was due this year the premium had gone up considerably, it was also pointed out to us a section of the policy that we had to totally adhere to and if we didn't and we were broken into they wouldn't pay out. They wanted burglar bars on all windows as well as the regular door locks and security locks etc but they also wanted all shutters and windows shut and locked at night even when we were staying over here. Needless to say we changed to Liberty......

Ibex ( and most insurance companies) require locks on windows and patio check the documents. Get AA insurance and spend the savings you make this year and get Ian from Sabre to fit them (680391823).

problem with uk based insurance companies is that you have to pay an excess, can be as much as £300,spanish insurance companies pay no excess. If you have an insurance company that is recommended by your bank , any problems and they will become involved.   Know this through experience.

Hi beachlife, do the AA insure Permanent Residents in Fuerte or is it just for UK residents Holiday Homes?
We are insured with Ibex & due for renewal of House & Car soon.  8)

we also got a quote from Chris Ward at Liberty Sigurous this year ( who are based in Caletta ) which was about 200 euros cheaper than we were paying in England plus it covered accidental damage and you can call a tradesman out once during the year to do some work you want doing that could be something as simple as putting up a curtain pole (because lets face it none of us take our tools on holiday ) to fixing a water leek !!!!! and to cap it all you can pay over 3 installments !!! hope this helps

I was formally with Ibex but have just renewed my buildings & contents insurance this morning with Yolanda at liberty in caleta (0034 669 114 370). Took out the premium protection for less than the basic cover at Ibex.
Accidental cover includes claims for laptops which Ibex & other company's  don't, very important as most people have laptops Ipads etc as apposed to the tower system.
Also included is excess water consumption so if you have a leak that you cant see & receive a large water bill Liberty will cover the cost, important here as the pipe work isn't the best in the world as my neighbor discovered & was presented with a 2000 euro bill from CAAF which he had to pay out of his pocket.
They also do a good policy for landlords that covers the rent if the tenant fails to pay the rent & will take care of the eviction process.
Great service hopefully if i have to make a claim all will go smoothly.

Good question Ole man River. The policy I have posted about is specifically aimed at the second home owner. However I would imagine as we are all European citizens (cough , cough) they should be able to cover residents of the Canaries. However as you know the anaries seem to  make up their own rules and pick which rules apply to them. I would drop a line to the AA and ask if they can cover residents properties which are not second homes but their primarily residence.

Hi just had my renewal from Intasure,
I tried all recommendations on this thread but could not get a cheaper quote.
Spoke to my father who lives in Majorca & he recommended Linea Direct.

I have renewed my policy with these on a like for like basis & if you just use as a holiday home you only need to visit 15 days in an 11 month period. No excess!
0034 902 123 586
£50 cheaper & you can pay by D/D or debit/credit card over phone

Hope this helps

Chris and Yolanda work from the same office and are both equally helpful and not at all pushy. I have now insured my car and my house (with much better cover) and made substantial savings, also they offer payments quarterly, can't be bad Eh?

Good Luck

I too am with Liberty for my car, made a good saving with better conditions than when I was with Linea Directa.  Mind you, trying to get out of the clutches of L. Directa took some effort.  They certainly try to do everything to hold on to you.

I think Robert [Atlantic] has moved from Ibex to Liberty [I think] so we might get a saving here

Mine is due in early September - I'll let you know

Use it OR Lose it!

.....another vote from me for Liberty Seguro, and more particularly Yolanda. We moved from Intasure almost a year ago now and had a problem during the year with a burst pipe. Yolanda and Liberty Seguro could not have been more helpful. Better deal than Intasure also!

Just had my renewal from Intasure.......goes up every year and now over €500 buildings and contents. Not tried anyone else but does anyone know if this is the going rate for a 4 bed villa with pool? Thanks

emmi

You can get a no obligation quote from Yolanda at Liberty.  She is based in Caleta and speaks perfect English - number is  669 114 370.

raye

Thank you Emmi, does she work from an office in Caleta and if so where abouts is it? Thanks
