The regional Met Office warns that a spell of bad weather is expected to hit the Canaries late today, particularly the westernmost islands.

A belt of heavy rain which is currently making its way in from the northwest, accompanied by moderate-strong winds, is due to arrive in La Palma and El Hierro at 6pm and spread to Tenerife and La Gomera overnight, although bringing less heavy rain to the latter islands. Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria should escape the rain but will have overcast skies for most of the week-end.

I'm glad I don't live in Tenerife!  There's an update to the forecast:
In a revised alert, issued this morning, forecasters say Sunday will be particularly uncomfortable in the western islands due to winds of up to 100 km per hour and heavy rain.

Sounds like a mild afternoon, here in Kildare Ireland  ;)

Don´t worry, we´ll only get a shower or two in Fuerte  8)    We´re well East of the bad stuff.

The severe weather warning issued by the Met Office for the week-end has prompted the cancellation of outdoor activities in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and other parts.

The authorities in Gran Canara have announced that all recreation areas are to be closed on Sunday and camping is banned for the day, ahead of the expected heavy rain and high winds. In Tenerife, scout groups have called off various outdoor events and trips scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday, while a big cycling event in the north of the island has also been postponed. Santa Cruz has already placed its emergency services on standby in anticipation of a rise in call-outs while the Tenerife Cabidlo has now issued advice to people to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay indoors as of tomorrow for 48 hours.

We updated the warnings last night on the program - we're now expecting rain and strong winds up to 50 kph on Monday and Tuesday and associated swell on the west coast of Fuerteventura between 6 and 10 meters!!!!!!!!!!

I'll update the broadcasts on Canary UK Radio as and when weather forecasts are updated

Oh Nooooooooooo!! we arrive on wednesday was looking forward to some sunshine hope it does not last for long

Captain Sensible

A cloudy morning in Caleta, then some short rain showers this afternoon.  21 degrees.

The wind was a light SE this morning, and now a SW this afternoon - that wind direction will bring the bad weather over the next few days.

Ditto re arriving on Wednesday.....been watching the forecasts with growing concern (the wife will consider it solely my fault for booking that date if she doesn't get sunshine  ::), but it LOOKS like it may be over the worst by then...... everything crossed!!

I was in Caleta all day(working indoors) and thought it was lovely watching everything dripping as it rained on and off.
Then I watched Barca and walked in the rain for a while, it was really cool. I've had enough now , it can stop as it's never too hot.

Bring it on!!! Fantastic day windsurfing and even better tomorrow. Just love it. You'll all be glad to know that it's only a temporary piece of heaven and dull and boring will be returning by mid week. Ho hum.

Captain Sensible

Very windy at the moment. 45 kph with gusts of even more strength. A mix of blue sky and clouds of varying colours.

Rain is forecast for 4am.

Captain Sensible

The Canarian Government have just announced that schools in Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro and Gran Canaria are closed tomorrow.

It seems to be bad in Lanzarote right now. A girl I know who owns a bar there said that she is panicking because she doesnt think that the bar windows are going to hold.

Looks like some of the lamp-posts just outside Corralejo aren't too solidly fixed to the ground - hope they survive! :o There are some frightening gusts around here, and the noise is going to make it difficult to sleep.

I hope all those who live on boats around the islands will be OK; it can't be much fun tonight for them, even in a harbour. :o Good luck especially to my musician friends Johnny and Chris, who are both moored in Corralejo harbour.  :-*

Captain Sensible

It's now raining in Caleta as well as the very strong gusty wind.

There'll be a lot of damage done tonight.
