Cycling around El Cotillo

Hi, firstly bike hire in Cotillo, are bikes available for hire and whats the going rate, and is it possible to cycle down the coast to Los Molinas via a bike/hiking trail?
Staying in El Cotillo for the first time in 8 years and in fact going back to the first place we ever stayed in the village 12 years ago - El Balcon. Back then it was a bit spartan, although perfectly adequate, however the couple we have booked with have gutted their apartment and completely refurbished it.
Been in several Corralejo apartments over the years but it is Corralejo itself that has changed dramatically over the past 15 or 16 of these and in particular the area at the south end of the dunes around the stone shelters. Sadly the increase of annoying voyeurs invading your privacy has become iritating  in recent years. And so it is back to El Cotillo first fortnight in June.

There is bike hire in El Cotillo - just opposite the corner of the football ground. As I remember it the going rate is from about 50 euros a week.
I have cycled naked with no problems from Maravilla to the lighthouse, Majanicho along the North road and to about 2 miles south of Cotillo crossing the main road near El Roque.
There are unmetalled tracks which seem to go all the way south along the coast.

You can't beat El Cotillo as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure there's bike hire available, though I can't remember where. Probably one of the surf places.

It's certainly possible to cycle off-road to Los Molinos, and there are plans to stretch the trail as far as Ajuy. There are leaflets in Spanish at http://visitfuerteventura.es/en/rutas-ciclistas/ which give details of cycling routes. As well as south to Los Molinos you could head to Lajares and onto the volcanos towards Corralejo, or obviously onto the North Coast Track.

Thanks guys for the info, we were in Paleochora in Crete last year and enjoyed a few days cycling and hiking rather than spending the entire holiday toasting on the beach - much as we love the beach!  So we thought we`d continue in that vein this year. We have done a little bit of trekking around Majanicho & the Lajares volcanoes in the past, it seems to add another dimension to the holiday - after all the beach & sea are still available afterwards.
How was the weather in Feb this year we were in Corralejo second week in Feb 2012 and it was the worst we have ever encountered in 15 or 16 years, the temp in the car read 13.5c at 13:00 on one particular day and the sea temp felt no different to the west coast of Scotland where we live..........

I've just made it home to the West of Scotland.....

Our weather last week in the south of Fuerteventura was fine. The temperature dipped to about 19°c one day, but was generally in the mid 20s. The only rain was a hint of drizzle early one morning.
I found the sea temperature ok (and I'm a wuss), but the hotel swimming pool would have been more suited to penguins.

We were in El Cotillo for a week and then one week in Costa Calma. (13-27 feb 2013)
Temperature got up to 26c one day and dropped to 17c one evening. One day lost on the beach because it was cloudy with a tiny bit of rain.
On average, it was 21c in the daytime.
We have both returned with good tans

It was just perfect for us.

I suppose all things considered it is an Island in the north Atlantic Ocean and subject to variable weather patterns, In the entire week we were there (feb 2012) I doubt if we had more than 8 hours of sunshine - still according to expats and locals it was a one off.
In contrast to that Aberdeen was a few degrees warmer in March 2012 than the south of Crete - crazy stuff this weather business.

In my experience bad weather in Furete rarely lasts more than a few days.
Unfortunately if those few days are the middle of your week's holiday it completely banjaxes it.
We always go for at least a fortnight to avoid this problem, but I realise that not everybody has that much time available.
