Fuerteventura at Christmas

Hi Everyone,

We are booked up for 2 weeks holiday over the Christmas/New Year period. We normal holiday in May and Oct and love to spend our days on the beaches at El Cotillo out towards the lighthouse.
As this is our first visit in December/January can anyone please tell us if they think we will be able to sunbathe/swim in comfort??
The forecast temperatures looks a bit low for naturist activities but sometimes they are a bit pessimistic?

Almost all my visits are December to February and there have only been a few non-sunbathing days and never any days when I didn't swim and didn't walk down the beach naked to fetch the breakfast croissants from the French bakery.



PS I took shirt and shorts in my bag to wear in the bakery.

Sunbathing I can well imagine - it's just that the warmth starts a bit later and ends earlier, but the middle of the day can be lovely, especially sheltered from any wind. But swimming? Too cold for me then, though hubbie has ventured in for a few minutes at a time for a bit of vigorous body-surfing. I don't think it's more than 19-20°C, is it?

Great........sounds like we should hopefully get to the beach for a few hours each day..........and maybe pack a wooly jumper for the evenings. Thank you both for your advice.

Maravilla doesn't seem to have deteriorated over the last ten years - they do repaint the outside regularly but it seems to regress almost instantly.

We save luggage by making sure our cold weather clothing for getting to the airport in winter is suitable for evening wear at El Cotillo.

Well it has been quite a while since I last contributed to this forum.

Based on my experience of visiting Fuerteventura during the end of the year and mid May/June several times, I can say that if your goal is a few hours of sunshine sans clothing, then late December is probably fine. You would be better to fly to South Africa, but we all have to make choices. However, if your goal is a clothing free holiday, I can't recommend it highly. As you note, you will be limited to 10 am, if not noon to 5 pm of comfortably nudist holiday. (Since my goal is to avoid clothing as long as possible, I prefer to wait until May to return. And there are fewer people, too. More free hiking around the island without running into people. )

As for Maravilla, personally I classify it as rustic. However, as JG points out, the claims of deterioration are exaggerated. The apartments are clean and painted and there is adequate, but not fancy, dishware and cookery. Personally, as my family can attest, I would prefer to spend 40 euros on housing and 140 euros on dining. At Maravilla, I sleep well and can cook a reasonable meal. And where else on the island can you comfortably spend all your time in the natural state, walk to the beach in a natural state and only have to slip on a shirt a few minutes from the store?  As one of the fellow apartment dwellers put it, where else can one stand outside, watch the sunset, and bar-b-que in the nude? Now if you do find a better location, please tell us about it. I have not found it yet. (A recommendation - if you consider Maravilla, select the sea side single bedroom apartments. )

Yes El Caleton is a great location. Personally, the I find the generator annoying, but those who live there never hear it. However, regardless of which location you prefer, during the holiday period, it is extremely unlikely you will find any apartments available.

I wish you good luck and am interested in your experiences.

(Note - this contribution to the forum did not involving hooking up, swinging or locating the optimal location on the island to have public sex.  And yet it was discussed the topic of the section - how to enjoy naturism while in Fuerteventura. )

As an addendum to SoCal's excellent post, I might add that I have regularly enjoyed 24 hour nudity in the winter months at El Cotillo. My naked morning walks are timed to arrive at the bakers' as they open.

It all depends on one's sensitivity to temperature.

For example, my wife finds it far too hot to be naked in the sun outside the winter months but also covers up earlier than me in the evenings.
