Hi folks,

Looking to rent a car next week for our week in Fuerte. I can't drive so it will be my girlfriend. Two problems:

- she can only drive automatic! We are looking on Payless and a few other local sites but there are just 'groups' and we can't figure out what is automatic and what isn't. We want the smallest thing possible

- she had to transfer and hand in her Canadian license when she moved to the UK. Her UK license doesn't have a year on it yet, and she no longer has her Canadian valid license, since she had to hand it in. She does have all her other expired license that date back ten years. Recon we will be ok to rent with these circumstances?

- some sites we're looking at have some 'domestic tax' of 30 euros to pay. Some don't seem to have it. Could someone clarify this ? Thanks !

It may well be worth checking out the AA for an International Driving Permit.

QuoteAn International Driving Permit (IDP) is valid for 12 months from the date of issue (see also important note 1 below).
Recognised internationally, an IDP normally allows the holder to drive a private motor vehicle when accompanied by a valid UK driving licence. (See also important note 2 below).....

If you have to go the automatic route then these are your best bet...

Only available from/to airport but pleasure to deal with.   :D

No hidden extra's and take it back with the same amount of fuel it had in it on pick up.

Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]
