Yes, I'm pleasantly surprised by this as well. BBC statement said it should have gone off 2 weeks ago, but, let's keep fingers crossed someone has forgotten to turn the switch off.......they have more to worry about right now . If it does vanish...BBC World Service from Nilesat is the nearest Satellite option. R4 is still available via internet, but, as I like to listen to it on my way to sleep, getting up to turn computer off etc  somewhat defeats the object !

The new free BBC Radio Player app for iPhone & iPad has a nice sleep and alarm function.   I woke up to radio 4 this morning.  It also has "listen again" (might only work with VPN).


The other option is an internet radio like the Logitech UE Smart Radio.

Well Good Luck with getting any BBC on an internet radio here! We have tried everything to receive it on the one we bought specially for that purpose! All the stations are listed by the portal software, but they are not available outside UK.

Yes - we use FilmOn for British TV and it's excellent (subject to some ridiculous speeds of late). What we want is to get BBC radio on the wireless internet radio (spearate from computer) and it is impossible!

There is no restriction to listen to BBC radio wherever.
Its only the TV thats the problem due to copyright laws and broadcasting outside the UK, in fact the the clue is in the companys title British Broadcasting Company TV.
Sorry but its not away from the PC though.lol
One of the English radio station there used to re-broadcast BBC Radio 2 each day over the air on FM, but that has closed down, or rather refused a broadcast licence.

Our whinge is that with a free-standing wireless internet radio - using the home router, which offers thousands of stations there is a block on BBC streams for outside UK, and you can't get round it. VPNs etc only operate for the computer itself!

Cannot understand then (not having used an internet radio) what is the difference between plugging in a PC to a router and using NO vpn you can listen to BBC radio, but if you plug an internet radio into the same router you cant listen.
Just had an afterthought, not an ideal workaround, use a wireless speaker placed wherever you need it, tune your PC into the BBC station you like, bobs your uncle, you can either turn it up or down or off.
Or use one of those FM transmitters, plug into your PC sound port, tune your radio in to that frequency, done that myself, it works.

Telepathy? In fact our workround is to use the little transmitter thing that we bought from Radio Caroline, and then pick up the signal on FM radios. Dead clever - solves one or two problems, but not that of having to get up in the morning to get onto BBC on the PC! Thanks for your ideas!

I don´t have any. I have a Sky HD box, and on "Other Cannels" I had 6711 to 6715 plus  radios  1, 2, 3 , 4.  They were on last week or the week before, but now nothing, although they are still listed.

Look at the two links in the first post.
They explain what has happened to the "red button" channels you were using and the radios
they have been reduced from 5 streams to 1.

By the way Deso. Watched the race, very exciting. Lorenzo was a bit foolish. Threw it away. I lived near Valencia for 3 months one winter, and it never stopped raining. They must have known that.
