Corralejo Tourist Office

Out walking a barranco beside Montana Roja and came across a signposted, staired path for walking up the mountain.
There are red signs for the camino reales all over the island.
I have asked the office in Corralejo many times if they have a map of the walks on the island and they haven't.
I walked the footpath from Cotillo to Playa Esquinzo recently and found it excellent but what a waste of money. Rocks bordering the path and every 6 to 10 feet crazy paved channels presumably to stop the path being washed away. How much it cost considering the financial state of Spain doesn't bear thinking about. Considering how little it rains a digger could repair the path after any rain quite effectively.
The paths around Hondo (except for the climb to the viewing platform) are a similar waste of money.
The authorities spend a fortune on making over the top walking routes yet are too brainless to produce a map or advertise the routes to tourists.
No wonder tourist numbers are down.

I've asked at the Cabildo office in Puerto for a map of the walking routes, and as you say, there isn't one.

There are excently signposted walks all over the island, that most people know nothing about.  A real shame!

Yes, I definitely think we need a new thread listing our favourite walks.
i.e.
Starting point.
Linear (if so end point as well) or round trip.
Time and or distance estimate.
Difficulty descriptor.
Recommended footwear.
Brief description of walk.
If no one beats me to it I might start a thread later today!

Why not get the Sunflower book from Amazon for Fuerteventura some great walks with maps and where to start etc length of walk etc etc.

Hi Colinblue - can you tell me where to find the Montana Roja path?

Complicated but here goes. Coming from Corralejo the road goes through a small cutting just before the dunes end. Park just beyond this cutting, there is a barranco further on with the road going over three arches. You can't see the arches from the road but there is really only one barranco here that is worthy of the name. Then just keep walking up the barranco and you can't miss it. It's not difficult to find the barranco, just difficult to describe.
