Proof, if any was needed, that it`s all about revenue generation. Drink driving is a lesser offence than using a radar detector to avoid getting  a speeding ticket. Cynical, to say the least.
Good post Woe.
Mentor to the boneheads.

Is ALL Overtaking now banned and fineable??  :o

Driving at unsafe distance : € 200 and 4 points
Wouldn't I love to see this one enforced. I can't count the times I have been harassed by cars, lorries and buses driving in my boot when I am doing the limit and there is no chance of them overtaking.

It should have read: Overtaking Illegally, that is, Crossing Solid White Lines on a bend, etc..

Also:

All the above items are increased, and are 20 new standards and even exemption of payment of claims by the administration in case of accidents on account of Stray Animals.
Drivers who have an accident  will not receive any compensation if killed or seriously injured. And if they have third party insurance, also have to take care of the damage to your car. Insurance companies already receive hundreds of calls to expand coverage if this assumption.

Are these new limits set by the Guardia Civil or by a government department?

With respect to radar detectors this is pretty standard in mainland Europe in France it is pretty much the same but they can also seize your car and it can be crush on non payment, also British motorist are warned that just having one fitted also incurs a fine of up to 2000 euros even if not used and confiscation of detector on the spot. In Ireland the importation or sale of these devices carry a penal regulation under SI 50/1991.
Not saying its right or wrong just saying its the Law.

But you can have a Facebook Page telling you where the Radar is operating. I also have an app on my iPhone telling me where they are.

Throwing rubbish from your car has annoyed me for a long time. Coke cans, Beer cans, Ciggie packets, MacDonalds containers. The Spanish do it all the time. About time they clamped down on it.

Do taxis get an exemption from the tail-gating fine? I never seem to be able to get far along my journey from the airport before one looms in the rear view mirror & I do like to tramp it a bit when outside of urban areas.

How about sat-navs with speed camera locations, are these classed as detectors?

Probably gone up 499% in the last 10 years, since Blair opened the floodgates. When I was young it was Taboo to drop litter.

Woe how many points can you collect before they ban you ?

If you have a Radar Detector, surely this makes you slow down, therefore upholding the law??? What's wrong with that? don't see the logic. - OK there isn't any! 8) 8) 8)

As tourists, I reckon we have a way to fight back.  Just drive  v e r y  s l o w l y  everywhere.  You're on holiday, so have lots of time. Let the queues build up behind you.  You'll be safe in the knowledge that you can't get done for speeding, and the inconvenience to other road users might eventually lead to pressure on the authorities to tone down the police persecution of tourist drivers (and it is primarily aimed at tourists in hire cars).
