It seems this Lady Mayoress in Antigua is making a name for herself.

New By-laws for Bars coming out include,

Certain size signs with all Opening - Closing Times

A sign giving you the Right of Admission to Customers.

And more more importantly for Tourists: A sign saying, NO ADMISSION FOR UNDER 18's.

More to come apparently, especially to do with Music  :o.

Well the sign for No Under 18's will mess up the family side of bars I guess..and a lot of bars I know don't actually have official closing times..if you have a crowd of paying customers you don't throw them out do you? Not in this economic climate. We never had a closing time anyway..it was sometime between 10.30pm and 2.30 am.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and im not sure about the former .....

Hope La Oliva stays out of it. The relaxed attitude to children in bars has always been one of Spains attractions.

Woe as you know the locales have a sign outside ie: Bc (bar cafeteria) So are you saying the the no under 18's is just for bars or bar/cafeterias , cafeterias on there own or all of them?
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity

Pieros will be a gonna thats for sure  :P Can't see that working.
Also places like Blues Bar, 60's bar, Windmill (has a kiddies play area out the back), Trafalger( has a kiddies play area opposire, could dump them there I suppose (j/k) ), Nestors (  :o ) well anywhere really..but pieros doesn't do food (unless its changed, havent been in there for about 2 years) so that's strictly a bar.

I wouldn't worry too much , with policies like that the lady mayoress won't be in office for too long.

Not sure about that appy. A bit of a grey area. I know that Jayne at the Wine Bar had to have the orange "Bc" sign put up last year, and she doesn't do food. Not even got a kitchen. Nestor has an "R" sign.

Jayne told me that a Policeman came around last week with a handful of forms he was giving out to each establishment, with all the new rules on, and ticking off each place.

She had to take the form into the Town Hall in Caleta to have it all signed and rubber stamped etc.. It's now with her Assesoria awaiting approvel. Next time I see her I'll ask if she knows more.

Meanwhile, if anybody else knows, let us know. Do they have kids in Bars in the UK. Maybe it's a new EU thing.

PS:   Spoke with Nestor the other day. He's selling the Restaurant as a going concern, but I think the Name goes with him. Interested parties go see him.

Sorry Woe..but as you keep picking everyone up on spelling..it's approval not approvel  :P

No doubt this is being enforced harder in the Brit bars, that's exactly the way the Spanish love to do it.
Yet again another case of "We don't want you here but we know that without you we're heading back to the goat farms".
This fad will most probably fade into the background once they find something else more "important" to concentrate on.
They should concentrate more on people putting rubbish in bins DURING THE DAY!!! or drivers wearing flip flops....

as in uk you usually find when they come out with some eye catching controversial directives its a smoke screen to cover up something else. Could be a good time to check her bank balance.

Seems in UK you can take children under 16 into a pub as long as they are supervised by an adult and are not served Alcoholic drinks.  So these new laws seem extreme especially in Spain

bluefox

i can't see them enforcing this, the number of famillie's that visit here with kid's what they suppose to do wait outside ? i don't think so, what about bar's in the hotel's & complex's, won't they count, of course not, which make's a total contradiction of the whole stupid idea, but i do see them going after music, tv and gaming license's (bingo), what a joke, they'd not only shoot themselve's in the foot but if they bring these reg's in they'll blow their frigging leg's off, they do anything to make an easy buck, report anything serious and they don't want to know.   :o  ::)  ???  >:(

The new laws being discussed for licensed premises include " No persons under 18 years after 22.00 hours " These are still at the discussion stage. Although there have been some strange rules over the years I doubt banning persons under 18 from being in a bar whilst accompanied by an adult will ever be one of them.

Ivemovedon

maybe not the strangest rule put forward but possibly one of the most stupid. Its been a winning formula thats made Spain a top holiday destination for decades... so why change?.

The form that Jayne had to have "Signed and Rubber Stamped" at the Town Hall last week, does not mention times, or being with an adult. Doesn't sound like it's in the "Discussion Stage" to me.

I also spoke with the Mother of an Ex. Council Worker, who says, the Lady Mayoress of Antigua has "delusions of grandeur", or words to that effect that are not printable.

As far as I know if the pub sells food it is okay for children to go in, maybe it is left at the discretion of the landlord? maybe someone else can answer this one?

On well, that will be right then. Sorry .
