The Voice - Disturbing Article

I was a bit perturbed on reading an article in this month's edition of The Voice about house burglaries. They state that "local statistics show that recently, OVER 40 HOMES were burgled in one week".

I find this a bit of an exageration. Do they have facts to support this statement, or is it just "scare tactics", to promote a certain Insurance Company, mentioned in the article.
If it's the latter, then I find this very irresponsible on the part of The Voice, and tantamount to putting people off living here.

Does anybody know the actual facts on this matter.

Did it say what area it happened or is that island wide?. What i can say is that a month or two ago break ins were occuring in epidemic proportions in a village in the north. I can vouch for it as it happened to us. And a few down our road as well. I've heard various stories of who was to blame etc and that arrests had been made but don't know for sure.

Putting people off or not, make no mistake its a fact that burglary is a very real and prevalent crime on the island.

We heard that in Lajares alone there were 35 burglaries within a 6 week period. We also heard that a number of the Local Plod were responsible for some!!!     
Whatever the truth, things are going from bad to worse.

If they're trying to dis-attract tourists then they're doing a dang-blasted  great job of late ? What is going on ? I don't remember it being this bad with so much negativity when i first started going over ? Ridiculous

Sign of recessionary times is always an increase in crime rates especially home thefts.
