Translated by Google.  :)

After three years of research, scientists at the society for the study of cetaceans in the Canary archipelago (Secac) have confirmed the sighting of several specimens of True whale a little more than 10 miles off the coast of Lanzarote.

This is one of the most undiscovered species of beaked whales.  There has in fact just been two or three sightings of individuals living in the world and the number of stranded specimens found  is also very limited.

It's a whale diving deep, often fleeing boats and whose habits of life tend to be away from the coast and the surface. In addition, its very similar to other species making it very difficult to identify.

The sighting occurred three years ago from the Oso Ondo boat, during the development of a study to know the presence, distribution and frequency of beaked whales on the East coast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and has been able to determine now what this species is thanks mainly to the morphology of its head and the position of teeth in the mouth line.

Has anyone actually seen a whale off Fuerteventura?  The best I have managed was a very large pod of dolphins last year off the Corralejo dunes, very near the shore.

Ive only seen Dolphins PHO....they seem to appear near the shore every October near Caleta and the best time to see them is early morning.

Pilot whales are often seen around the various canary islands and these are often mistaken as dolphins because of similar size and shaped nose
