It was announced in the paper today that funding for the upgrading of Caleta Beach has been denied again.

Captain Sensible

Yes, no money has been allocated in the 2013 budget for the upgrade.

There are so many austerity cuts in all the departments budgets, that this project has slipped down the priority list.

Whats wrong with the beach?  Sorry to ask what may be a stupid question to you guys on the ground etc.

What would the "money" be spent on for instance?

Not fracturing your ankle whilst wading out to deeper water................. ;)

In my opinion there's not too much wrong with it.  The beach is not as bad as the local press and businesses make out! It's no different to the beaches in Corralejo or some of the lagoons in El Cotillo.

We use the beach reguarly and have no complaints.

There are rocks and boulders from the mid to low tide mark, as there are on a lot of Fuerteventura beaches.  It's the same up in Corralejo.

The plan is to finish the promenade at the Frasquita and Barcelo ends; dig out some of the rocks; replenish the sand, and carry ou some landscaping.

I always thought it a nice clean beach and as for stones at low tide, there is few beaches that dont have stones or shingle or weed.

I like the beach too. It just needs a bit more soft sand and some of the rocks taken away. Aparently this is a big job though and they have to dig out whats there first and the job would take about 18 months because it would have to be done  in stages. Its strange the way there are millions being given to new projects at the moment and yet the beach upgrade gets ignored for years. I have the feeling that they are hoping that the Hotels will eventually pay for it. I think they donated towards the Atlantico end.

They seem to have lots of money to upgrade roads though. They have been working on the road to the Atlantico Centre for a month now. God knows what they´re doing. Also the metal planters they put in with flowers in, are now overgrown with weeds.

The best is the bus station that has been built on the wrong side of the road all passenger will have to cross the road, but then they can waste even more money by putting  a sub way in .

Caleta beach is fine. Great for kids building sand castles.  Beachball area is tops.
New beds near the new bar are great and the kids play area and toilets are just what was needed. A new machine is now sifting the sand to clean it. The beach has  rocky areas but so what who needs diggers all over the place for 18 months.

Not sure about that.  It's only the wrong side of the road if you live on the other side, if you live on the same side as the bus station then it's the right side?  Or what?  Now I've confused myself! ;D

Maybe they could open more than 1 toilet at a time though ? Men and women having to share the same toilet at times,it doesn't bother me but i'm sorry, some ladies like to keep the difference...

There´s a Subway from Macdonalds across to Atlantico but nobody uses it. They just run across the road in front of cars  :-X
