easyJet in 'happy boarding' trial

Irate looks, long queues and exasperated travellers may be a thing of the past at the easyJet departure gates this autumn.

Coming soon, all the airline's flights will have allocated seating. The system has been tested on 5% of the network since March. "Passengers hated the scramble for seats," said the airline, "but the key was to assess the effect of allocation on turnaround times. So far, we've found it makes no difference."

The trials arose as the airline stated that their passengers told them that seat allocation it is an important issue whether it is about extra space, knowing that they will be seated together with family or friends or simply that they want to disembark the aircraft as quickly as possible. During the trail stage 16 different routes were tested, the roll out date to all other routes has yet to be announced.

Specific seats can be selected from £3 upwards during the booking process, or a seat will be assigned for free. The airline admits that the move will reduce the demand for its Speedy Boarding service.

So there you have it folks, if the good old `Elephant Stampede` is an essential part of your holiday, and you need to keep your elbows in shape, then you`ll have to fly Ryanair in future
   ;D ;D ;D

I have often started a Q at the boarding gate early just for the hell of it. Not an Elephant Stampede more of a
Sheep thing I think

I couldn`t do this even if I wanted to, I`m never sure which gate is going to be used until it gets flashed up on the panels.
Mentor to the boneheads.

Get to know which gate R/A are flying from then get your partner to start a queue at another gate while you park yourself near the correct one, could work as people see the queue forming.lol

In the early days of Easyjet operation they used to issue numbered boarding cards.   When a flight was ready to board they called passengers forward in batches of numbers 1 to 20, 21 to 40 etc.    So those who checked in early got to board plane first and choose their seat.   Seemed to work quite well.

we are flying to fue from liverpool in 15 weeks time with easyjet! im still to book my speedy boarding. do easyjet use the air ramp at fuerteventura airport.. il pay the speedy boarding charges. i just want me and my family to sit together!! they will put the price of the speedy boarding on to the price of the flight instead!

TripleH

Do they always use the same gate at Fuerte? and Brum?

Not usually...gates are allocated by ground operations at airports and their availability is subject to all sorts of differing factors is the best answer I can give.

For kevc00l
By the time you fly you will be able to choose your seats (at extra cost) and can almost certainly do this now if you have already booked the flights - I have already reserved our seats for December, January, February, March and May.
Just go into "my booking" and you should get the option to choose seats - there is an extra cost and it costs even more if you want the extra leg-room seats (most not available for families with children). Booking a seat will automatically get you speedy-boarding.

Passengers who:

have a Flexi Fare ticket
are an easyJet Plus! cardholder, or
have paid to select either an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat

will still be able to use Speedy Boarding to board the aircraft first.
