Article in today`s Mail on Sunday (ok I dont get it every week  ) saying that hospitals in Spanish tourist areas are refusing to accept the EHIC card and instead presenting patients with bills for their insurance companies to pick up. This is because of the cash shortage health authorities in Spain are facing. It mentions some of the hospitals are in the Canaries. Its already happening up and down the Costa del Sol for quite some time now.

      It just shows how useless the EU is, completely contrary to their drawn up rules and they just ignore it 

So make sure you have good travel cover folks you never know when you might need it eh!!

On a slightly different subject,  I always thought  it strange the way there was one price for Residents and another price for Tourists when going  go to a private doctor or clinic. If you mention that you  have private insurance it is twice the price.

That´s because Private Doctors are part of the "greedy brigade", ripping off Insurance Companies, thus increasing the prices of Policies. Much the same as Lawyers4you brigade in the UK.

Raiding supermarkets is not the solution. This will only dislocate the economy even more. Supermarkets could fire their local employees or close these raided supermarkets due to this leading to more unemployed.

This will not attract foreigners to buy the real-estate on stock. If people raid supermarkets then they will also raid the properties of those rich foreigners.

Spain has to understand there is international competition on the real estate market: Florida is not that far away with 'more for the buck' and sandy white beaches.

Getting your average Spaniard to `understand` is a big ask. For decades their attitude has often been ` send us your money but dont bother to come`...

   A sea change is what is required, but I cant see it happening
