crikey 'em,i've took my daughters out of school for our annual holidays for years and don't give a stuff,in this country the travel agents/companies put the prices up for the school holidays to screw us all relentlessly,done it for years,in Sweden they drop their prices to encourage parents to take their family holidays DURING school summer holidays,would that happen here ? NOT A CHANCE............................Aint called RIP OFF BRITAIN for nothing....

I always took my boys out of school for holidays when they were younger. It was so much cheaper to go away off season. It didnt do them a bit of harm. They are both in University now.

i had to ask for permission from daughter school as were not out to caleta till 22nd aug.so she would have to miss first week of the new term...i got permission  the head said in a letter to me as as my daughter had not missed any school in the past 3 yrs they would allow it this time ONLY ....Fxxk that..i would have done anyway...how can they tell me i cant take my daughter on holiday,,not all people can get holiday in school holidays thats what pisses me off in this country and of course the price of hols during the school hols.AIR FARES ETC...

But when i mention why they took 25 kids out of school for a sking trip to italy during school term,,head mentioned to me was school education ? didnt know they did maths.english  geography etc ,while sking down ski slopes ONE rule for that another if you want to take your kids out to spend time on holiday with family

You have educated her too Si2008 by bringing her to Fuerteventura. I really believe that children can learn so much by going abroad and experiencing different cultures and languages. It is great for them.

Totaly agree with you Fi i,m showing my daughter diferent cultures and learning new langages as you say it its educational and its also i great way for me to learn as well

A couple of years ago, the Government were talking about stopping Travel Companies charging more during school holidays. What´s happened.  All the Travel Companies are to blame for this. Just taking advantage and ripping people off for their last penny.

"Under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, councils have the power to fine parents if their child takes an unauthorised holiday from school."

So it´s the LAW.  And Travel Companies know this.

I've taken my son out of school for a holiday for the last 3 years, he's 7,this year to my suprise the school agreed to us taking him to Australia for 6 weeks, obviously he'll be given some  homework to do, oh and he does go to Eton lol [only kidding] 

Thankfully my boys school understands the benefits of travel, plus i'm proud to say he's a good lad and works hard.

I have heard the other day on the television, that human rights have decreed that a school can't expell anyone who is distrupting the class, yet parents can get fined for taking a child on holiday 

So the young yob can spit at the teacher, kick poo poo out of the equipment and others who happen to be in his/her way, and they effectively get off with it, but take your child on holiday...........................................

Maybe a work around but couldnt a child be ill before or after the school holidays, a quick trip to the Doctors for a note, or how does the school know they arent infectious.
Its like this Headmaster, little Jimmy has these spots all over or We went away to Turkey and just got back and little Jimmy has a stomach bug

Honesty is the best policy, ask for some homework, tell the school you'll be travelling around the island, and not just sitting around a pool, i've never had a problem getting any of my kids time off ever...........

The only time i never  took my kids out of education was in collage and university,just junior and secondry school,it didnt do them any harm both have good jobs lad left uni with top marks

we used to go to fuerte mid september after the kids had gone back to school. Since the middle child has hit high school we have had to move it to august. its no really extra cost if you book it early enough.. i understand why parents take the kids out of school term time the school have to give and take. we had my daughter out for 3 days in feb. the school asked why are you taking your child out of school in term time.. our reply was the flight leaves on a wednesday.  she either misses the last 3 days of term or the first 3 days of term you decide.... we got no reply from the school just a stamped consent holiday form!!

There's a real drive going on at the moment to try and stop this. It's all part of the 'lets bash teachers and the teaching profession'. But, education is stuck in the past - a Victorian model of sticking kids in uniform, cramming them into a small class-room and bore them all day with pointless stuff. And then we wonder why they rebel.

Taking your kids abroad to experience new cultures and languages etc is a fantastic experience.

Fining that woman 50 quid is pathetic. Just another example of the State bullying.

And lets be clear about one thing - if you send your kids to private school, the summer holidays are at least 10 weeks, so these kids can go away and miss the extortionate price hikes impossed on the rest of us poor sods.

The Government works for the elite in power - not you. You can choose the blue team or the red team - it makes no difference in a One Party State. They are not honest - because it makes no difference to them. They get a pay-off at the end of their term.

Thats what I meant after you said honesty is the best policy, a few year ago I would have totally agreed, but not now.
