For some this is a difficult subject to understand but I shall try and explain

The line of longitude 0 degrees passes through Greenwich in London

As you travel WEST from Greenwich time moves backwards, i.e when it is 12 noon in London it is 7am in New York

As you travel EAST time moves forward, i.e when it is 12 noon in London it is 9pm in Tokyo

You do have to know where New York and Tokyo are of course

Not sure what the time zone used by this forum is but posts made from anywhere in the world are logged in at that time zone - NOT the time zone where the post was made

So if someone posted an entry from Hawaii it would have been posted at 2am tomorrow but logged here at 12 noon today

You also have to know where Hawaii is

The Canary Islands use the same time as UK. (Greenwich Mean Time)

I've always known mainland Spain to follow central european time.
I never understood why they do this, as Spain is due south of UK, and therefore should be on GMT.
I read recently  (Sunday Times, I think) that there's a strong lobby in Spain to move to GMT.
Apparently, General Franco changed to German time as a show of support for Hitler.
I'm intrigued as to how true the story is, and whether they're likely to change.

Yeah let's help the lost soul out and make it interesting.
There was a bit on the news several weeks ago about Spain wanting to revert to GMT as they believe that it would create more productivity amongst their workforce, a few other reasons also but that being the main one.
Not heard anymore on it though so don't know if it's actually gonna happen or not.

Isn't it something to do with the fact that the whole of the EU is on the same time EXCEPT the UK

When UKIP win the next election and England withdraws from the E.U. perhaps England can switch to Bongo Bongo time

I think Portugal and Republic of Ireland are both in the EU but on UK time, so we are not quite on our own.

My geography isn't great though - are they not further West than than any of the other 20 odd EU States?

PS BS sorry to hear you're not feeling well. If you need a list of chemists open in Fuerteventura today just go to the Pharmacy nearest to you and the information is on the door, they've even got new state of the art smart phone scans on the doors that give the answer on your smart phone - or you can look in any of the local newspapers

i'll try and stay sensible by saying central european time cannot and will not ever change, all time zone's as said is governed by gmt, if you look on a world map or a globe, you will see vertical line's (going from top to bottom) each one representing one hour, so obviously there's 24 of them, the horizontal line's represent climate's north and south starting from  the equator and whatever country these line's go thru' the climate would be very simular, so there's abit of .....NOT....so useless info !
