the ayuntamiento clarifies that they didn't give the permission for the activity, but it seems only because "it's not within their jurisdiction" (they use word "competencia"), and only "costas" can give that. but the mayor seems to be in favour of the activity

I'm looking forward to delivering the petition to the Mayor - he came out on the side of the land owners today. FiFi will probably find the item in the local papers

He reckons the path and caves were dirty, smelly and full of rubbish. We have been taking walks along the path to the caves for 14 years. It is just NOT true

PS  We've had an apartment in Pajara for 14 years which may add something to the strength of our petition as we're not short term holiday makers without local knowledge but esatablished local residents and tax payers

There is a big campaign locally now as business in the restaurant in Ajuy has dropped by 50%. There have been demos too on Saturdays.

A sign has appeared at the path entrance saying the foot path is FREE - if you want to hire a "guide" it is NOT mandatory

I understand legal action may soon commence

Tuesday 17th - the two "guides" had disappeared with their table and sunshade so here's hoping they are gone for good.

The poor lady in the little bar on the front with the bright orange toldos was nearly in tears when we spoke to her [great burgers by the way and the best cortado in town - it'll blow your brains out!!]. She needs all the help she can get

The story made the front page of the Canarian National press again yesterday  - looks like the locals definitely frightened them off - it is a bit like The Wild West once you leave Antigua heading for the mountains, yeeehaaa

A novel way to avoid the charge would be to swim to the caves from the beach! As advised in the latest edition of the Hoy Magazine. Quite possibly the worst advice even given? That said, i would quite happily pay €7 to see whoever wrote that article attempt the swim. I watch from the cliff above and cheer them on!

You're right Charlie - NO swimming at Ajuy, undertow and north to south currents are dangerous unless you have considerable local knowledge!!

Don't let your kids near to the waters edge either - a big Atlantic roller can appear out of the blue [literally] and wash adults, let alone kids, off their feet and out to sea!
