My week on the Island

Well got back yesterday from a week on the Island, based at Costa Calma and the Pajara Beach Hotel.

We took our two Grand kids, who in the main were well behaved, and loved the trip back to the island and hotel again.

On arrival we were met with good hot and sunny conditions, but Sunday and Monday were dull, very windy and cold. In fact the high winds were a constant nuisance and although we knew the island is windy, hadn't experienced it so strong for so long. Tuesday afternoon we got some sun, and Similar on Wednesday. That kind off set the theme for the rest of the week - cloudy in the morning and the sun coming out in the afternoon.

Thursday and Friday afternoons were very much better and in the sheltered cubby holes around the pool, felt very nice indeed.

We picked the hotel this time to satisfy the kids and their relentless pursuit of coke and ice cream, not forgetting their entertainment at night!

Monday evening was not a nice day for me, as some low life walking afterbirth, stole my new waterproof camera and put the dampers on my holiday after that. No matter how you try and blot it from your mind, it still stunk that someone could take another holiday makers camera, see the pictures of the kids etc and still keep it, is beyond me. Perhaps i'm too honest?

Anyhow on the Friday afternoon when the sun was shining, I decided to get some "me time" and took a walk down to the South at Risco del Paso, about 3-4 miles away. on the way back I took a few pictures to show anyone what the beaches are like down there. Please excuse the quality of the pictures - they were taken with my mobile camera.

Good holiday, weather and the thief could have been a bit better, but roll on September when we return to the North of the island for a change, in a rented Villa near Oliva.

Firstly glad you got the passport job sorted and had some great time with the Grand Kids..Special moments..as to the Thief....may he be infested with the fleas of a thousands camels and hopefully it WONT drop off

Sorry to hear about the weather we were there at the back end of April ( but opp north) and it died on us for a few days, so guess its unsettled..

Was Plus car ok??

On this trip it was the full monty Voldermort. Bus down, spoonfed and beds made etc.
Car hire is for our September trip.

Overall we had a great time with the kids, even after "losing" one for 30mins

I'm delighted you and company had a good time. Those "Russians" must have got a bit of a shock when they heard the Scotch accents. The Photos came out very well. You must have a good phone. Be thankful the scum bag didn't get that as well.

The phone is just an i-phone Dagwood, 4s version I think. Does take a decent snap shot I have to admit, even with its limitations.

yes we came back yesterday, weather was a bit of a let down, but we made the most of it. shame about your camera, we were in Corallejo for the week. ref your camera, my other half went to the toilet in the Hello bar and came out with a mobile phone that somone had left in there, luckily the the owners knew who it belonged to, so they came back later in the evening to collect it, and thanked her for finding it. We we be back in Aug/Sep so looked forward to some better weather next time.

The weather seems to have been unseasonably poor recently. I'm watching it anxiously as I'm flying in on 19 May, and need a couple of weeks of all-over sunshine please! If I don't get the sunshine, Mrs tiger and I are over in September, so it should be hot then (and the seawill have warmed up).

The last 4 days have been fantastic here in Caleta, around the 28c/30c with a nice breeze. Should be like this for the next week and then it just gets better. So if you are coming bring your factor 25...

Replacement camera with me now, raring to go in Seltember. Sending the insurance claim form and a bundle of supporting documents tomorrow. Will advise how I get on when I hear from them.

Got the insurance ombudsman contact details at the ready just in case lol.

Sorry about camera matey - poverty makes people desperate I'm afraid.

This weather situation is getting number two though. If we have another rubbish summer in the UK, I was planning on going to Fuerte asap. Perhaps I'll look further south.

Hi KW, We had a camera and some other items stolen in Spain about 3 years ago and claimed on our travel insurance. When I went to renew our house insurance that year I was surprised to find the Batsrds had claimed back the money from the house insurance and I was unable to comper the Merkat for two years claim free. Some very bad language was used but to no avail. Just watch them.

How did the camera get lifted if you don't mind me asking. Room theft or public area? We usually leave our gear on the beach when swimming or going for a drink. Usually the Germans will keep an eye on your stuff for you, & will neatly restack your towels etc. should they get blown away. Hope this system is not at an end

It was in the hotel's entertainment area Magoo. It was really my fault I suppose, just hoped that the low lifes of this world werent sitting around me when I went back to pick it up

I have relaced the Camera within a few days of my return, and I have this week sent off all the reams of paper with all receipts, thumb prints, DOB and all other manner of prove it documentation

I guess I will hear back by the end of next week, and while I am not a practising Clairvoyant! will gues the letter will start of like: Dear sir we are sorry to advise you that your a tit for leaving your camera and therfore will not part with one dime.......................................... blah blah blah.

I have my appeal letter ready to post back

We claimed for a lost camera once. We think it was lifted off a luggage trolley at the airport in Singapore, or maybe it just fell. Anyway we didn't realise it was missing until we were in New Zealand. The insurance wanted us to send them the instruction manual for the camera to prove we had it. Couldn't find that of course. However I was able to find a bit of the original box and provide a photo of herself using it in Singapore, and they paid out without further quibble.

Came home after a great weekend down in Scarborough to see a letter from the insurance company saying they are pleased to send me a cheque to cover the loss of the camera. Not half as pleased as I was lol.

Restored my faith a little with insurance companies, as I was expecting a " sorry to advise" letter instead.

Rounded of a brilliant weekend down in Yorkshire!
