Space Station

Just been outside (in Ireland) watching the space station passing over. I'm told its the size of a football stadium and cost $50 billion. I was think if our government had anything to do with it $50 billion wouldn't replace a worn out clutch on it.

How the hell you manage to observe that ? Wow ? I'd have tried to have a look if i'd known ? Daughter has a telescope somewhere - would that have sufficed dag ? Get any pics mate ?

If you go to the NASA web site Padster you can sign up for notifications of when it will be passing over you and a pair of binoculars is all you need. I'm signed up here but the pass the other night was on one of our rare cloudy days. It's the solar panels that make it such a large object.

It passed over Ireland in a North West to South East direction. I'm about 45 miles North of Dublin and it crossed at about 10 minuets to 10 last night. It was a clear night and I happened to be outside. I had forgotten all about it and just noticed bright object moving fast in the sky. We live in the country and not too much light pollution.

we see it quite regularly- dont need a telescope, in fact it moves so fast you wouldnt be able to keep track of it with a scope. comes from the west horizon and takes about 2-3 minutes at most to clear your line of sight...whether you can see  it or not depends on the angle of its trajectory--and whether its a clear sky

If you have an I-phone, there is a neat ap called Sky view, which you can use to id any object in the night sky. You can even target stuff below the horizon & it will tell you when it is visible next. It has constellations, stars, planets, satellites & the ISS in it's database
