Corrupt Civil Guards 'acted like mafia' in Fuerteventura


More details have emerged of the activities of a group of 9 Civil Guard officers in Fuerteventura who are said to have controlled the island like a mafia and committed a host of crimes, including drug-trafficking and torture of detainees.


The officers had been under suspicion for more than a year following rumours that they were part of a highly-organised criminal gang. They were caught red-handed as they collected a shipment of one ton of drugs (pictured) as it arrived by boat from Morocco on 21 February. The force's senior officer on the island has admitted that there were "few crimes that they did not commit", including making false arrests to incriminate innocent people to cover their tracks and torturing drug-dealers to reveal the sources of their supplies to seize the drugs themselves. In addition to the 9 officers, a further 12 people have been arrested in connection with the activities of the gang.

No surprises there then to those of us who live here and have to put up with this s**t. Let's hope the authorities have got the balls to follow through with this enquiry and prosecutions and not do the usual ignore it and hope everyone forgets routine. Let's also hope that the rest of the Mafia here take note but they're more likely to just move in and pick up the pieces. Typical politicians.
