Great memories! Thanks for that! Mind you, I'm not sure I agree about them being any better than any other days. They were mine, but were they better than now? In some ways YES, in some ways NO.

I remember so clearly the terrible worries I caused my parents by not coming home on time, and I remember my daughter going off in my car for her first solo spin the day she passed her test: she knew I needed the car in 15 minutes; by the time she got back three-quarters of an hour later I was well past being annoyed, I was totally frantic (she'd got totally lost, never having taken any interest in how Mum & Dad got her from one place to another). When my son was 14 and riding a moped in France, mobile phones had arrived. The day after we gave him one, we got a call from a remote vineyard track which doctors say might have saved him from being crippled for life, as dislocated hips need to be seen to pretty quickly.

I don't think I could go back to the days of 2-day letter post for normal communication and hideously expensive and unreliable telegrams for the most urgent. I have to have my smart-phone, Internet, Skype etc.
