Word to the wise, be very careful with this lot

Don't know what's happened as they used to be real efficient and it's the same people working there but..
I know some people have to order meds in advance as they are shipped from Gran Canaria, my little one is on meds that have to be ordered 2 days in advance, but twice now the guys at the chemist have totally forgotten to write down (a very hard task I know) the medicine they need to order.

If you need to have meds ordered in I would advise you to insist they write it down on their notepad beside the till and make sure you see them do it.

Just a heads up.

Hi Barry I cant find the actual article now but Paulino Rivero the Canarian President was up in arms recently and saying that chemists have not been paid by the Government and therefore are finding it hard to buy new supplies......

This will give you an idea of what kind of thing the article was about....http://www.thinkspain.com/news-spain/21533/hundreds-of-pharmacies-shut-due-to-government-non-payment

It may be worth stocking up if that is possible.

Here you are....a similar one but this time specifically about the Pharmacies in the Canaries....80 million owed to them.... http://newsinthesun.com/page/5/

Jul26
Canary Goverment Unpaid Medication Bill Now Over 80 Million Euros.

The total of unpaid bills for prescription drugs, provided for the Canarian health service by pharmacies for the months of May and June, now exceeds 80 million euros.

The Canarian government is blaming the State which, according to regional government president, Paulino Rivero  "is not paying it's share."  Rivero was speaking to the presidents of the various islands colleges of pharmacists yesterday.

There have already been delays in payment of the April bill and the situation threatens to become a standard pattern from now until year end, something which has already caused supply problems in some pharmacies and distributors.

The Pharmacists' representatives met with Rivero to seek alternatives to offset theses deficiencies, among which, is the possibility that pharmacists would seek private sector loans guaranteed by the Canarian government in order to meet the payment of supplies and suppliers.

This, however, could lead to another conflict, which is who would pay the interest on these loans, something which will be studied  "later" according to pharmacists' boss William Schwartz.

Interesting, seems to be getting worse.

And as for stocking up, wish I could Fifi honestly, trouble is that the medicine shes on is not covered under the governments guidelines and at 15 euro a pop it's not something we can really afford to bung out on.

The medicine is actually for gastric reflux, life threatening without medication and yes..... not covered via prescription

Its terrible to see the immediate effect all of these cutbacks are having Barry. From what I am reading there is uproar about it and the politicians and Doctors do seem to be strongly objecting. I hope their objections are heeded by the Government.

She is a little dote and I love seeing all her photos on Facebook. Looks like her Daddy I think. :)

I'd look at it that theres always someone worse off round the corner, yes we pay alot now but I'd hate to think what it's like for the poor people who live here, just get images in my head of old pensioners not going for their medication as they can't afford it etc.

No wonder some are up in arms about it really.

And shes doing great :) changes everyday, will have to try and come and find you for a visit next time your out Fifi :)

Ah do....that would be lovely. :)
