I'm bringing my cat over to Caleta in August, can anyone tell me if there are ticks in Fuerteventura...

Yes, Fuerteventura has them all!!

Various treatments can be bought in places like Ferreteria Saavedra, particularly at the moment as infestations are quite bad.

The locals don't have much respect for animals, so your cat will easily pick "stuff" up.

Even with scalibor for our dog, we've had to get extra treatments.

I agree with calculator, there is a particular problem. The climate is very well suited for such insects to thrive, and if I had a cat I think I would seriously consider keep it inside. Although the particular neighbourhood probably matters quite a bit....

Thanks for all your replies, I have a supply of meds to take with me for ticks, and as for keeping him inside, not an option as he is an outdoor cat. And I think to be fair the UK has its fair number of ticks too so something we have been dealing with for years.

Be wary of bringing treatments from the UK - it may be a false economy. The vets here prescribe prevention treatments for the particular type of ticks we have on the island.
You say it is an 'outdoor' cat so I presume you have built or are going to build, a closed run for your cat in your garden in which case it is unlikely to encounter ticks except for when you take it for a walk on it's leash. Keep away from areas that have goats and you will avoid the main hot spots.
