Can't believe how much rain fell in Corralejo last night. Went out for a meal got a taxi from the door of the restaurant (5th) and withing seconds of getting out the taxi we were both soaked through.
Understand that town beach is closed this morning and more rain is supposed to be heading our way :(
Never expected to see anything like that here, it looked like it was never going to stop! Must've been a year's worth of rain in one night!

Rain is forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday. They've had a lot of rain in Gran Canaria and Tenerife

Yeah, it was torrential! All the electricity went off aorund here too, around 0:15.
Be thankfull we haven´t got Sandy. I have loads of friends living right in the path of it.
Road and paths outside our place totally disappeared just looked like a river. Thank goodness sun out now and everything is returning to normal except piles of pecan .swept along by water seem to be everywhere
There is a big Atlantic low moving to the west of us. Heavy rain forecast for the mid week, particularly Wednesday with associated high winds.
The last tropical storm forecast a few weeks ago turned tail about 500 miles from us and didn't affect us at all - but you never know!
Interesting cycling home last night - the main street by the Palmeras centre was under at least a foot of water.
new storm drains on the main street were a bit overwhelmed last night - if more arrives on Wednesday - there will be worse flooding - have to try and do something to protect my office - it's just starting to dry out, but 1computer casualty due to a short.
Looks like I'll need a boat on Wed if predictions are correct

Thanks for showing the vid Capt. I've only ever seen it drizzle once in El Cotillo in over a dozen stays. Amazing!
There was a heavy shower for about 20 mins in the afternoon of the first full day we were in El Cotillo recently, would have been the 30th September I think. My girlfriend missed it as she was in siesta mode and refused to believe it had rained...

Had lunch at Cafe Central today - they survived ok thanks to their high doorstep! The roads and bare ground thereabouts showed plenty of evidence of the water and silt. The water in the old harbour is still very discoloured. Some of the properties near to Cafe Central were not so lucky apparently - not surprising after seeing that video. Loads of seaweed washed up on the beaches as well.

Those who know Cotillo will remember this used to be the chemist and is below road level. Gayle says the laundrette is now operating.
Gayle fell and injured her back that night and is now nearly recovered, we wish her well.

We were staying in Cotillo for the past fortnight and were unaware of the flooding in the town until the following morning.
The road into town was covered in debris, mud, sand etc. and was being cleared by a contingent of municipal workers. Walls alongside the road had collapsed and part of the pavement subsided.
The supermarket's underground carpark was flooded to road level i.e. full to the brim and it took two days to pump the water out and another two before the supermaket was fully operational again having had a power failure with all the freezers going down. Not a nice smell inside for about a week afterwards.
Opposite the launderette is a property with basement parking and this too was filled with floodwater, most of which had come from the flattened land between the church and the Cotillo sunrise apartments, across Cale del Faro, then down the three roads opposite and converged in the dip in the road leading to the Faro ( Av de los Lagos) where the launderette is now situated. Once the basement was pumped out of water and sludge they hauled three cars out.
The Cotillo Lagos apartments had a narrow escape from flooding but a number of rental cars outside were up to the wheel arches in water ( check for condensation problems if Payless offer you a dark green Clio next time Dan).
There were stil large pools of stagnant water around when we left on the 7th so would be a good idea to take some mozzie repellent if staying in any of the apartments around this area.
We drove down to Morro Jable the following wednesday and the rain followed us there too.
It pissistantly rained (and I mean a deluge) for half an hour at mid-day and the road was flooded from one end of town to the other. A couple of mini-cyclones added to the excitement with shop awnings and sandwichboard signs flying around.
Still the kite surfers had a good few days before things calmed down and we ended our holday with some nice weather and the town drying out and returning to normality.
So GF it was you who brought the rain with you.
I got accused of that in Sept/Oct when we had a few days with some torential rain. As the last real rain they had was when I was there in Oct 2011.
So I cannot get blamed this time. Like you we had the reverse. There was torrential rain at El Caleton and none when we were in the village having brekky and shopping.

More heavy rain today in Corralejo. It's hardly bloody stopped this last month :(
There has been a Yellow Weather Alert in place for yesterday and today, so I think we've been quite lucky to escape a lot of rain and stong winds.
There's only just been a shower at my house. A chance of rain every day this week due to low pressure being close by.

Lots of severe flooding in Lanzarote. Just been watching the news on TV Canaria and it's just shown the flooding here in Corralejo.

The rain stopped in Caleta at 10pm.
I hope that there isn't any more. The Council's new drainage system has worked near our house, after the houses in our area were all flooded in Nov 2010 and Jan 2011. It's the first time the new drains have been really tested in the last 18 months.

Holy moly that`s wet! We just got back from Corralejo on Saturday and it was beautiful - although the preceding 3 weeks were a little bit hit and miss. Hope everyone keeps safe out there.
