Travel certificate requirement 'takes us back 30 years'
The Canarian government says that the obligation to submit a residency certificate issued by a town hall in order to benefit from the current 50% discount on air fares is totally unnecessary.

Canary Islands - 14.06.2012 - The requirement, which takes effect after the summer and forces all Canarians and EU nationals to obtain a certificate for each trip if they want to avail themselves of the discount for travel between islands or to the mainland, has been criticised by all parties here as needless bureaucracy. Regional president Paulino Rivero says he has not given up hope that he can persuade the Spanish authorities to reverse the controversial decision, which aims to combat fraud in the use of the subsidy.

Some people travel back to Gran Canaria/Tenerife every weekend, after working on Fuerteventura; so they´ll need a new certificate every week!  As well as the 3 euros charge for a certificate, it means going to the Ayuntamiento office every week to get a new certificate.

However tomorrow is another day and the Guardia showed a big presence in Cadiz so don't take any chances!! Carry your originals
