Indy

Hi, my daughter had her handbag snatched last night in Corralejo high street. Cash, cards, keys etc.  Witnesses say that the guy responsible has been seen around town. Just wanted to make you all aware that whilst the crime rate is low in Corrie, it is easy to become complacent. One holiday messed up!

wernt me apps im ome m8 any way hope ya daughters ok

Indy

Not really a case of 'wise up'- not a lot you can do if someone comes from behind you, grabs your bag and runs.  She was with friends and there were plenty of people around (it was about 11.30)several of who came to her aid.
I don't want to make a drama of it, just  to make people aware that it happens as couldn't find any other postings on the subject.

Why dont you try and embrace the English  language instead of gibbberish ?

austin7

Appy was talking to kay2215, who seems to assume that no crime goes on outside of the UK Indy, not you. Hope your daughter is ok too, it's not a common occurance on the island (yet)
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and im not sure about the former .....

Red Queen

I also hope your daughter is OK, but sadly these sort of opportunist crimes are going to continue as more and more people on the islands are unemployed and many starving.

andi

Really sorry to read about your daughter's experience Indy. Can you give a description of the guy responsible and the location in the High Street of where it happened last Monday night? I'm in Corralejo high street most evenings around 11.30pm and I'm pretty sure that given a good description it may be possible to narrow it down a bit.

Can the Man

Sorry to hear about your daughters bad luck, lets just hope all her bad luck goes with it.

Corrie is usually not a bad place, but it doesn't seem to matter where you are nowadays, the thieves, thugs etc. always find an opportunity.

pennylane

Sorry to hear that Indy..Scum are scum no matter where the location sadly........

Andi you gave me a good laugh......retire means just that..but you have such a good heart....you go boy and show the Fuerte Cops how it's done lol.x ps luv to my mate if they are in your vicinity ;} {()}

andi

Well I'm as fed up as everyone else is with reports like this one.....I'll pass on your thoughts to our mutual friend tomorrow morning as we're hitting Caleta for a few hours for various reasons [:)]

Indy

Hi, not a lot to go on I'm afraid, as they only saw the back of him.  Tall, thin with light brown hair and dressed in black.  They went straight to the police station in town who weren't interested, went to the station close to the Campanario with  a translator the next day who did seem a little more interested, but that was probably because the translator was there. Lets just hope he gets picked up soon.

darren1971

the only muggers out there are the morocons fact and indy my hotel got robbed last year and police aint interested in tourists they r the scum when i was there last week one old bill slapped a english girl thats how brave the civil are now but tell daughter from me hope shes ok

Indy

Thanks Darren, she's ok, bit shaken but ok and tough enogh not to let losers like that get her down x

andi

Not a bad description in difficult circumstances. Whereabouts was it exactly on the high street?

whyme

What's needed in my opinion is an office in each large town with access to volentary translators where tourists can go and report crimes against them and I'm not talking about showing Southampton on the tv, at the moment they have to go to Rosario find the police station and supply their own translator wasting at least a day of their hard earned holiday.

andi

What's really needed is to find the b****** by working out which part of his pond he likes to lurk in.

kay2215

just seen the reply to my comment and why should i wise up,,,,you are the one who needs to wise up mate,,,yes crime does exsist here i no that just like in the uk all my family are police officers there and here so we no what goes on!!!and its peoplelike you who bring bad names to these sites if you can not take critism you shouldnt be on here and u shouldnt comment ,i was mearly stating how bad it was what had happened and that these places are usually quieter than the rough places in the uk,,,were the scum bags and idiots are from......were r u from again>?

appy ammer

Indy

Hi, it happened in the high street where the Hiperdino, bakers and fast food outlet are. Busy area really.  Was a nightmare really, as the girls were unable to get back into the apartment that night as the keys stolen.  Some of the people who helped were holiday company reps and they were able to sort them out somewhere to stay.  Then there were replacement locks, hire car, bank cards etc to sort.  A massive thank you to those who helped with those things, you know who you are. Fuerte is a safe place and we have never heard of this happening here before, lets hope no-one else has to post like this again.

Ronnietheblue

sorry to hear, watch out all tourists, ours is a beautiful island, but dont let your gaurd slip, especially around the atlantico centre and on the seafront walk from atlantico past the unused locales in front of corralejo beach hotel. Unfair comment i know but fuerte is closest island to Morroco BEWARE.Local police try there best, pop into a bar and bribe and spanish speaking brit to go with you, we are all very proud of our adopted island and 1/2 tropical will be enuff.Very sorry once again, please dont put you off revisting

meggie

For the last 6 years my wife and i have been coming to Corralejo for 2 weeks every October and love the place.Prior to this we used to holiday in Tenerife but stopped going there due to the out of control crime rate the final straw being an attempted bag snatch from my wife as we walked home late one night.Do hope Corrie does,nt go the same way

andi

Thank you for that info Indy. You're right, it is a busy area. Following your description there are now a number of public spirited guys that actually work every night in that same location that are now aware of the events last Monday. Two final questions did your daughter remember the length of the light brown hair, short or long? Could this have been an Afro/ Caribbean individual with dyed hair as that is very distinctive obviously. Lastly which direction did the guy run off to?

appy ammer

sir you are feeding the witness

About 3 years ago, a lot of houses in my Village were being broken into. When they finally found out who it was, they were British, that lived there.

Also Darren, most Morrocans and Blacks that I know, show a lot of respect. It´s young Spanish lads that you need to watch.

andi

think you may have confused me with someone who gives a stuff about that pc number two any longer....any detail is significant

appy ammer

andi, i fear i have the upper hand in not giving a stuff,
