Just returned home after spending 10 weeks in Caleta. I've visited the resort several time during the last 4 years staying in both A/I hotels and S/C apartments and here is my personal opinions of the bars and restaurants visited during my stay in no particular order;-
Dog and Duck. This has got to be the best pub with its wide range of drinks at very reasonable prices (Tropical €2, John Smiths and Strongbow €2.50 and wait for it Guiness @€3).There's a full size snooker table, pool, table football, table tennis, skittles and darts. As well as having a fantastic couple Mark and Michelle running the pub.
Legends.I preferred the 'old' place which seemed to have a much better atmosphere, but the new place still has basically the same acts and the San Miguel @€2.50 is very nice.
Windmill.Happy hour all day every day works out at €1.85 pint and very nice as well. Also excellent value meals.
Red Lion.Dont know how much the lager cost as it was'nt my shout but whatever it cost was far too much!Undrinkable and possibly better suited for putting on chips Argh
Sixties Bar.€3 per pint and ok.Does a good breakfast for €4.50 inc drink.
Pierro's. Again €3 a pint and so so.Entertainment on every night.Brian in the stage door is something different and worth visiting.
Lord Nelson.Small friendly bar that does happy hours both in the afternoon and again 9-10 in the evening.
El Kapitan.Another small and friendly bar.Nice place to have a cold beer outside in the afternoon sun.
Hemmingways.Paid €1.50 pint (h/h) but was'nt nice at all had to leave it.
Scooters.Little bar with memorabilia.Unfortunately it had been shut for the last few days.
Beach Cafe.Decent snacks and drinks in a lovely location.
Trafalgar. San Miguel @ €1.50 about on a par with the Red Lion and Hemmingways for taste.
Old Sports Tavern. Tropical €1.99 but does h/hour 10pm-11pm.Good value menu,Breakfast €1.90 before 12.30 (I think) and other meals @ 2 for €12.
The Wine Bar.Small and quiet.
Nestors.Fantastic steakhouse
Lins and the wild west tex mex offer excellent value meals.
These are only my opinions and I appreciate that both drinks and food can be different from day to day and from place to place.

ainly agree with your comments.the dog and duck is great, and an example of what can be achieved with hard work and good customer service.personally ive never had a bad meal or beer in the trafalger, but peoples tastes differ.el capitan is also one of our favourites, but i wouldnt describe it as a small bar.crazy legs brian is a born entertainer, but weve never been to pierros to see him because we dont like the place, but again personal taste.overall a good summary though.

With regards the Trafalgar we had several meals there and as in previous visits all were ok.I did'nt go in the Flower but was sat next to Jon in Nestors on his birthday and he seemed a nice bloke.

Fatherted, did you feel at the end of your holiday that you got better value then you might have done had you gone AI?
Abra su mente.

forgot to mention the flower, sorry jon.we must have been there the same time as you father ted.it was jons birthday on 6th feb and mine on 8th feb.we also went to nestors for my birthday, and had the biggest mixed grill ever.without doubt nestors is the best in caleta[in my opinion].having said that caleta is blessed with many fine places to dine.

Sadly, Scooters has shut down.

Three new places have just opened this week. Live 22(a seven screen sports bar) and the Alhambra(a late night dance venue) are just across from The Caleta Gardens and The New Slap and Tickle is up beside the Flower of Scotland.

We had some friends out for a week and they spent about 350 euros.this included 1/2 of a days car hire (25).We only stayed in 1 evening but generally had breakfast and lunch at home.I get the feeling its now probably cheaper to go s/c.We priced up for some other mates to come out late April and the hotel rates seem to have rocketed in the past 12 months.

Thanks Annalivia for the info on the Slap & tickle move.  We are in Caleta in August and will be frequenting The Slap.  I take it the Scully is still mine host?

I went to a new bar in the Montecastillo centre last night with some friends called Baba O'Rileys. Yet another friendly bar to visit when out and prices were reasonable as well.

All inclusive is no match for the bars and restaurants in Caleta and in my humble opinion, local privately owned accommodation is a far better value for money than the hotels

i have to agree. with kids AI is great.. but i cannot understand people who go on holiday and never go out of the complex. ive been to caleta many times now if we go all inclusive we still eat out either during the day or for an evening meal. its much better going out on a night time and avoiding all the number two in the hotel!

No mention of my favourite place THE PENALTY SPOT.

fatboab

Was in Penalty Spot twice (reluctantly) week of 17-24 May.
Quieter than I remember from last year. Sunday lunch 1st sitting had no takers when we walked by. Better offerings to be had round the corner opposite the Oceanarium or at La Perlita.

the penalty spot is an ideal location just to sit and watch the world go by. sun shining a nice breeze off the coast and not to forget cold san miguel for me it gets no better than that! having visited caleta 2-3 times a year for the last 6 or 7 years i suppose we all have our favourite places. thats why there is so many diffrent opinions on here as everyone has diffrent views on where they like best :P
