Hi all, Looking for some good advice on travel insurance.  We have always had multi trip insurance but as it has gone up I have been looking into it further and cant decide what's best.  My partner has high blood pressure which I have always declared but there is such a difference between for example Staysure & Travel Republic [which don't ask you for any pre-existing conditions] The price difference is at least £50 - £100 less with other companies that don't ask such details.  We know we have our E111 cards but just trying to work out if there is any difference between the different companies.  If anyone has actually any 'sound'  claims advice or experience this would be great.

I used Staysure for years but have switched account to Nationwide,

If you open a flex plus account with them you get worldwide insurance which my friend used in Greece when he had a flesh eating disease caught from insect bite then swimming in sea. His medical bill was over £100K, but Nationwide paid everything and he had great assistance they even paid hotel bills for his wife to stay.

There are other benefits as well as you can see on the link.

I keep the max amount in the acccount each month which pays interest and pays over £6 per month which reduces the cost per month to £7. Plus with the account you can open a regular saver (if a joint account both to open a regular saver which pays 5%). Which more than covers the cost of the insurance with the interest from the regular savers.

What swung it for me was that I can extend both Staysure and nationwide for 100 days but Nationwide you pay a premium once to extend any stays within a year but with staysure you have to pay a premium for each stay. Plus Nationwide is worldwide at no extra cost.

I also use Nationwide Flex Plus.  I had a small stroke in 2003 and, for the first couple of years, there was a small (£70 ish) extra premium, but since there had been no re-occurence, that isn't applied any longer.

You also get mobile phone insurance and breakdown cover and they pay 3% on balances up to £2,500.

OK, there's a monthly fee of £13 (was £10) but with £2,500 in the account, they pay you about £6 a month in interest.

Good to hear of Beachlife's friend experience (not the flesh eating bit, but the Nationwide service)

For the past 3 or 4 years I have used Boots Travel Insurance. They are very reasonably priced in comparison with the likes of Staysure and the others who are supposed to specialise in Pre Existing conditions.
I have a blood clotting disorder (Factor V Leiden) which increases the risk of DVT's of which I've had 2 major ones and I always used to  get stung for over £150 in addition to the Annual Multi policy for me and the family.  With Boots, the extra is very low and I can have the Boots Advantage Points too.  Give it a try, you never know you might be surprised at the price quoted by Boots.  The website address is http://www.bootstravelinsurance.com/multi-trip-travel-insurance
