Oh no. Sorry to hear this news, WG.
How did they get in and were you in the house?
Not good.
British Consulate in Gran Canaria +34 928 26 25 08.
They can issue emergency travel doc to get back to UK. You need Police Report number.

Johnrgby2

Very sorry to hear of your break in John.

It has been getting worse by the week there, as I am observing from afar and on FB.

If you all check out fuertecrime on FB you will see what I mean and no doubt that won't be them all.

Shame whats happening over there now.

John, I think what Johnrgby meant was that you live on the golf course and not that you were on it golfing.

John, so sorry to hear about your misfortune, one word of advise for when reporting with the police get a good interpreter to go with you. I had to report a break in back in 2009/2010 and went to the police station in PDR but I  brought an interpreter with me, we spent over an hour for something that should have taken 15 minutes because the police officer was only capable of typing in the report using 1 finger.

An Update

We are on the La Estancia development on Fuerteventura Golf.  It turns out 4 villa definitely had break ins and possibly 3 more attempted break ins about 4 /4.30am this morning, all villas facing the golf course.

They got in through our third bedroom window that was on the night latch which they have forced, took one of 3 mobile phones, the best, off its charger on the desk in that room leaving behind my PAYG and wife's older mobile plus they didn't touch my laptop, they took Elaine's evening bag off the dressing table in our bedroom whilst we slept and opened the hall sideboard draw and took my bum bag containing wallet, cash, CC's, passports and parker pen, left behind compact camera house keys, car key and sun glasses.  They appear to have left via the lounge patio door as Elaine found this partly open and to start with thought I hadn't closed it properly before I went to bed.  We discovered all this before day break  so when it started to get light we discovered my bum bag, passports and pen in the back garden by the pool and on looking over the wall wallet and CC's etc. were lying on the golf course ground, so it is about 400â,¬ cash and my mobile phone that has gone.

Garda Civil have been to take statements and photos etc. now waiting for forced window to be repaired.

Will update more as I know more.

One of our neighbours had a tracker on the phone and was able to track where they had gone and were and it turns out it is a gang of 4 Moroccans who have now been arrested up near Corralejo

Thanks Can I knew what John R meant, have spoken to him on the phone.

I submitted my report over the telephone where you have an option to speak in English all ok, and the local Garda Civil did speak English and took extra notes.

See my report above for the latest update.

Great Work. I hope they batter forty colours of S#1t out of them. The last thing that's needed in Caleta is breakins.

Windermeregolfer

Police Statement all done and I have to say IMHO considering the language issue quite straight forward.  Insurance claim in both on the Island and for my phone through my UK bank online which they accepted straight away.

TamaraEnLaPlaya

Sorry to hear of this WMG - not much consolation but 'lightning rarely strikes twice'. We had a wallet taken outside Las Rotondas a few month's ago and it was a right pain but fairly quickly dealt with, as with you we made our denuncia by phone in English to Madrid who uploaded the report on the computer so it could be printed locally for us to sign - very efficient. Nothing compared to the invasion of your house though. Glad the perpetrators were quickly apprehended.

malabu

I bet like always they only get there hands smacked, not much of a deterant. >:( >:(

Deso

Sorry to hear about this John and can only echo the comments above. Hopefully there is some sort of consolation in that they have caught the thieving rats. (being polite there)
Regards, Neil
Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

Ducks

Very relieved they did not try to keep your passport! At least you don't have to worry about identity theft, but the violation is still distressing, especially knowing they were in your home while you were sleeping. :(

As they have caught the culprits, do you think there's any chance of getting your phone back?

Fingers crossed for you!

Sorry to hear WDG,  but looks like the police have done a decent job.
We where burgled a few months ago (in the UK).  Like you we where in bed.  They took my phone and my wife bag which had money cards everything.  The card company where able to tell us where they tried to use the cards.  I turned detective visited the places and found some really clear CCTV.  Took it to the police who said they knew who it was and would be arresting him.  Four weeks later got a letter saying case dropped?   We are still considering making a complaint.  Hope you get your things back WDG

Probably a police informant. That also happens in Ireland a lot.

Thanks for message, no I don't think I will get my phone back, some have but not me so far, they may have had a buyer for it.

Can the Man

John, I take it yours was one of the latest smart phones ?. Your probably right in that they had a buyer, but you never know it might just turn up. Here's hoping for you.

woe10

Does the Phone Tracker require an Internet Connection. I normally have Mobile Data switched off, as hardly ever use it.

Wild Rover

Terrible news WDG. And a warning to all. Hope it doesn't play too much on your mind. I would be so paranoid. Filth should be locked up and then deported!

Can your phone not be blocked completely by your network and made useless. Also keep an eye on drop box etc. A friend had their phone stolen and the stupid clown that stole it was taking selfies and they automatically went into my friends dropbox or whatever they used.

Within 3 hours I had been on to BT Mobile they blocked the sim and online through my Samsung account I blocked the phone.

Sorry to hear about your break in john, recommend you keep a 3 iron handy in case you get any more visitors in the night.

Dave that raises a very good question what if I did use a club to stop / immobilise an intruder?  Who is in the right?
