Car Insurance query

We have a foot in both camps, and live 50/50 Fuerteventura/UK.
Does anyone have or know if there is such an insurance policy that covers both your UK registered, and your Spanish registered cars together? Clearly you can only drive one at any one time, so one would think they could give some form of discount. Or am I being naive?
Any suggestions?

Not really sure Archer, but the systems are
different, In the UK it is you who are insured, while here it is the car that is insured, so I do not see how what you are proposing is possible, but I am prepared to be corrected.

Thanks John. I sort of thought that was how it worked. Maybe I used the wrong word to describe what I was looking for. I meant one 'company', not one 'policy'.
I know Direct Line and Admiral have subsuduaries in both markets. But do any others offer a deal?

I know it was house insurance but the AA (a motoring organisation) offered us villa insurance cover so maybe they will do UK and Spanish car insurance and give a discount for a multi policy cover ???

Everybody says the same thing, so why do you have to name drivers, surely if its the car thats insured anybody can drive it, what happens at the usual Guardia road checks and your name isnt on the insurance would they let you off, dont think so

Globetrotter you are mixing up the car rental requirements with  private ownership car. I own a car and as long as the driver satisfy's the insurance companies requirements , usually an age limit of 25 years, all is well and no names are necessary. When I first bought the car i was given a discount based on my UK NCD which was nice.

Should have said that a license and permission to drive are handy although the last one is not something the police will check on.

Must be doing something wrong then, our insurance for our private car through Ibex names myself and my wife on the certificate as the drivers no other, also had to send licence details, no claims entitlements etc to get the insurance, very strange.

So does anyone have a definitive answer then, is it the car or is it the driver/s because as ours say the driver and others think its the car, maybe someone will know

It's not all that complicated!!

The vehicle requires insurance cover. Naming additional drivers provides supplementary/complimentary cover that would potentially not apply to unnamed drivers (e.g. personal accident cover, etc.).

Read the policy details.

Anyone with permission above a certain age (usually 26) can drive the insured vehicle. But their cover will potentially not be as substantial as a named driver.

We are insured with Linea Direct, insurance is on the car, minimum age is 25, cover is identical whoever is driving as long as they meet the criteria 25+ full driving licence etc.

Captain Sensible

Yes, it's the car that's insured in one persons name.  Anyone over 25 can drive it with the owner's permission. If anyone is under 25 then they have to be named and the premium goes up a lot.  I'm with Linea Directa.

Archer

Thanks for all your replies. I thought Linea Directa was one of the favourites. Do you just go for the standard full comp deal online? Or can you get some discount? They quoted me â,¬330 for a 1.6 which is nearly double our UK policy.
Thanks

Mine is about the same, but it comes with full road side assistance Europe wide and the first year I got 50% off our property insurance, then the second year they removed the excess, and they are easy to deal with, every occasion i have had to contact them they all speak excellent English.
