Over to the Dark Side

Yes Mrs KWC wants a change from Fuerteventura for the main summer holidays (were still going over this April) and has commanded  I book something in Lanzagrotti.
Shame has descended on my family and the villagers all stop and stare pointing to us as if we are aliens.

I have tried talking her out of it but not interested, I have said its more populated and busier - not interested.
I have tried buying her a nice perfume, but she just said she would be getting it any how at the Duty Free.
I have tried having friends phone up and mock her decision to no avail.

So rather reluctantly had to book flights, Villa with a pool and Car hire for last two weeks in August. The Doctor said my depression should lift immediately on touchdown on returning back to Glasgow.  Until then he said keep looking at the Pictures of the lovely clean big open beaches of Fuerteventura, and I should just about survive the long and arduous wait till Mid August.

So its over to the dark side we head, but there's more depressing news on all of this!
You see were heading to Playa Blanca and as those who often look over from Corralejo will know, its very visible.  Therefore I shall be sitting on the veranda of "her" Villa in PB, looking depressingly over towards the real world, the best part of the world, the only island to be on, rather longingly with tears cascading down into my Barcardi and Coke diluting my only form of escapism left to me.

Any tips on how to get through the two weeks when over there?
Any recommendations on restaurants  for Steaks and Fish?

Any high buildings !!

Divorce or suicide, but both on reflection are a bit extreme, we stayed there once, but that visit cured her, grimace and bear it.

What about taking a daily ferry trip to Fuerte? You might be able to get a weekly discount ticket.

Deso

Yes, pretend to nip out for some milk and jump on the Ferry.  ;D
Regards, Neil
Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

Kenny Lanzarote is a fabulous Island. The weather is usually a little nicer than Fuerteventura because they do not get as much wind. Around the Marina Rubicon area of Playa Blanca is really beautiful, although if I were choosing I would find that area a little bit quiet and would go further North. There are some gorgeous places to visit, Manriques house and the Jameos del agua are well worth a visit. Generally speaking the standard of accommodation , bars and restaurants is better than Fuerteventura because they have been in the Tourist business much longer. For Naturists you also have Charco de Palo which is a nice little Naturist village not too far from Costa Teguise. The price of food and drink is also a little cheaper than Fuerteventura I find. The bus service from the Airport is very good and they have a phone app so you can get real time information about when buses are due. Very cheap too. Personally I would base myself further North because you have so many areas nearby to visit. It is my second most loved Island. I do think that Fuerteventura is a better for a bit of craic though and to me it still feels like home. I stayed in a fabulous place right on the beach in December which I booked privately so email me if you want a recommendation. I think you will have a lovely time there.

Thanks Fifi another helpful response there. Unfortunately the accommodation is booked but I do have a car so can tour the island and its er few beaches.
I did find funnily enough, flights, car hire and even the villa cheaper than what I would have paid heading to Fuerteventura.

Looks like your lumbered this time, but if such notions attack her again, she should be humoured and say no problems I shall arrange everything. Then tell her its all booked and you are off to France on a camping holiday via a very long ferry crossing  ;D ;D..that should take care of such mind games for the future  :-X...job done..No need to thank me I consider it a public service

Nothing wrong with Lanzarote. We tend to alternate between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, though we do prefer Fuerteventura. We prefer Puerta del Carmen to Playa Blanca, a little bit more going on. There is an excellent tapas restaurant in the Rubican Marina area, called La Taberna, can highly recommend the stew of baby beef. Like it so much we have travelled down from Puerto and eat there.

Can the Man

What a shame Kenny, but from all the suggestions made, I think Deso & Fatherted have the best ideas  ;D

falkirkdan

Kenny I have my passport ready and can get to Glasgow airport at the drop off a had.  So don't worry your ticket and accommodation will not be wasted and your wife after a week or two with me will realise what a wonderful person you are and not forsake Fuerty again.  Just hope the dates don't clash with my next 2 Fuerty holidays.

KWC

Cheers Can/Dan etc.

I of course jest and looking forward to going anywhere where there is sand sangria and se........... (Answers on a postcard to..)

Dan you would be the one high tailing it from my wife!
Think Tasmanian Devil.
Think where the BBC got the inspiration for the name Dragons Den/Hells Kitchen etc     I'll say no more.

Any hoo I let her loose with the plastic for ten minutes in the Duty Free and she is fine for about ten days - the last 4 are a nightmare till we hit the DF on way back.

paully

What....A Scotsman letting his wife loose with the plastic  :o :o...this just gets worse  :-[

  I think you deserve a medal mate  ;D ;D

Sorry KWC but I'm on your wife's side on this. We have been going to Fuerteventura for the last 11 years 2or 3 times a year. I know I shouldn't complain because it's a fantastic place and we love it but we have explored the whole island many times and feel it's time for a change. You know it's time for a change when you can perform the cabaret act in caleta before the performer appears😁.  My husband is not too happy at missing the step in and dog and duck this year but he will get over it!

Rosamund, tell your hubby, we will be thinking of him, while having a Guinness in the Step In with Keith and Phoebe.  :P

If you ignore the fact that all the bars will be deserted because most people will be staying in their all-inclusive hotels, the choice of restaurants is miniscule compared to Corralejo, you'll probably get your hire car exhaust ripped off trying to get to a decent  beach, the centre  can be walked in around 15 minutes so unless you've got the memory of a goldfish you'll have seen it all on your first day.......unless you walk all the way up to the marina where half of the facilities will be shut, the beer is more expensive, the supermarkets are more expensive, it's further from the airport and entering the town is like  driving through a retail park. If you ignore all of this; you'll see that it's every bit as good as Fuerteventura.

I suppose you  could always drive to PDC.......if you like Irish bars.

Why not have a week on each island?  Two centre holiday!
