I know its probably been on here 100s of times - I booked car hire from the "Rental Car" App and although it started out very economically - by the time I was committed to buy - it started hitting me with 9 euros A DAY Collision Damage Waiver. I have not paid this additional 9 euros and I have been informed by the web page that I have 950 euros excess on the policy.
My question is - shall I cancel this and go somewhere else or do all of the car hire companies now charge this. Also - if this is the case - should I pay the extras ? ( I ve adlready been hit with 6 euros a day for an additional driver ).

Many Thanks in advance - we are coming out on 04/03/17 so have a bit of time to sort it ( we are seasoned visitors having had a house in Fuerte for many years but havent hired a car for quite a while )
Hoping to come for good some day soon

Cancel it and rebook with PlusCar.  No insurance scam, no excess payment, no fuel scam.

Hi

  You could also look at Cabrera Medina/CiCar, Payless and Top Car Autoreisen all of whom have full comp insurance with no Excess, bring it back with the same fuel and most allow a second driver for free..These are the good guys and they rarely feature on `trawler` websites due to them being honest, valuing customers and keen to keep their reputation..

   There are others but............................... ::)

We always use cicar, you do not have to pay until you pick the car up at the airport.

There are a number of threads running on Trip Advisor on this subject, Fatherted..The big problem is the Brits use sites like Car Trawler and go for the cheapest they can find. Goldcar know this and they also know that such people are on every flight. Because there are so many in a never ending stream of gullibility is why they get away with their flawed business plan.

  Until the Brits stop `doing cheap` or at least start doing a modicum of research before their holiday, these bucket shop outfits will continue to flourish. I`m getting tired of people complaining how they have been misled and the £30 a week car hire turns out not to be.Caveat Emptor as they say  8)

I often wonder anyone ever uses Goldcar twice....! There was yet another expose on them in the press last week, yet people continue to book them. As said above, the best choices are Pluscar, Cicar, Autoreisen, Payless, all of whom have genuinely fair rental terms!

Yes Paully  your spot on. A few years ago I had a car booked through an agency and it turned out to be Goldcar! Thanks to fellow forumites  experiences the alarm bells started and as I didn't have a credit card with me I called in and I was offered the following;-
(a) just pay xxxx amount per day as a waiver or
(b) put my wifes name down as another driver or the hirer and use her c/c details. All well and good doing the 2nd option as she has only had a provisional licence way back 1972ish and only for a couple of months at that! But hey ho a sales a sale and Horlicks to the consequences. Needless to say I didn't take up their kind offer and to this day I cringe whenever I see hire cars with the dreaded Goldcar sticker in the rear window.

Dear UKbossman, I don't want to sound pedantic but I see from your profile that you have 229 posts which tells me your not a newbie to this forum.

There is a specific section on car hire and there is almost a new thread started monthly about car hire, the same recommendations and warnings are given. Surely you have seen these before ?

As my fellow forumites have said PlusCar/AutoPlus, Payless.es (make sure it's the Spanish site and NOT .com which will rip you off), CICAR, Cabrerra Medina, Auto Reisen or Top Car Auto Riefenstahl. Avoid all others like the plague especially Goldcar

Thanks Can the Man - The great thing about a Forum is that it is just that - unfortunately sometimes you come across opinionated people with far to much time on their hands - all constructive advice is welcome - this time in two weeks I will be in El Time chillaxing after working my butt off for a living..................... see you in the dunes for a beer sometime :P
