As we haven`t been for some years we plan to have a day over on Lanzarote this holiday. Anyone who`s been recently got any recommendations to put on our ‘to do` list please?

Don't take the island tour. It is a ripoff (unless you have a liking for blind shrimps or a cactus farm)
Do visit Timanfaya. It is something you really have te see, very impressive.
If you go on a sunday, you might visit the market in Teguise.

Depends What day are you travelling and whether you are driving or on foot? Teguise (not Costa Teguise) is an interesting place to see but not on Market day as the stalls sell mostly tat and it's heaving with shirtless day trippers and oversized tattooed ladyZ from Playa Blanca. If you like a glass of vino blanco You should take a drive through the wine region La Geria and stop at a couple of Bodegas. Avoid the coach parties and try to find Bermejo Bodega just outside San Bartolome. A beautiful place where you can try all their wines by the glass in a wonderful volcanic setting. Simply Magical. Obviously try to visit the Cesar Manrique Fundacion in Tahiche and then have lunch in El Risco in Famara. Best Restaurant in Lanzarote and a wonderful location. The Capital Arecife has some great bars and restaurants especially around the Charco de San Gines. Get the early ferry and the last one back! Just for info the 'blind shrimps' are unique Albino crabs in the Crystal Clear waters of Jameos Del Agua. If you are interested in nature then this should be on your list.

Thanks for all that info. ET and CDS. We are on foot so will be on the bus where ever we go but intend to go early and return late. As we will only be there for one day need to get our act together before we go. We have had several holidays on Lanzarote many, many years ago (late 70's) so sure we will see some big changes. Went over to Playa Blanca for a day more recently but wanted to see some other parts of the Island this time.

Rather than the bus you could arrange to pick up a hire car in Playa Blanca, just for a day. This would give you much more freedom to explore the island.

That's a good idea Tamara. Thanks.  Will look into that.

Timanfaya National Park
Fundacion Cesar Manrique
Cueva de los Verdes
Los Hervideros
Famara Beach
Lagomar Museum
El Lago Verde
Bodega El Grifo - Museo del Vino
Castillo de Santa Barbara
La Graciosa

Just some of my choices, in no particular order, certainly more than you could visit in 1 day. Look them up on Trip Advisor and see what suits your tastes. Have a nice day!
(I haven't visited the Lagomar yet, it's on my list for the next trip.)

Thanks Tamara. You've been hard at it  :) Have been to a few of the places in the past but not Castillo de Santa Barbara which looks very interesting. Visited Bodega El Grifo - Museo del Vino but can't remember too much about it Hic!  ;) Anyway, I will look into all of these and thanks again for your effort  :) Six weeks today and we will be on our way over - don't like wishing my life away but really, really can't wait.
