Does anyone know what is going to happen to this now that the new road is nearing completion especially the section between Parque Holandes and Corralejo/dunes area?

Where did you hear that, calculator? I too have only seen reports that they plan to close it altogether south of the hotels to Parque Holandes, but have not yet decided exactly how, for instance whether to allow cycles, or to keep it open but cut it in the middle with a barrier for emergency vehicles.

I also understood that was what was going to happen, but it is sheer stupidity from a tourism angle, but there you go!

I agree that to close it to tourist traffic is ridiculous including the bus but other heavy vehicles ought to be banned and made to use the new road.

There seems to be so little information about this topic.  If you Google for it most of the results are opinions/what people understand on this site.  lol

I think the problem is that while they have decided in principle that the road should be closed, no-one has yet given much thought to how it could be done, so there has been lots of uninformed speculation and no facts. I suppose once the new road is open next year we will see how much quieter the coast road becomes, and so how big the problem will actually be.

I believe they have no choice but to close it to through traffic. The dunes are a nature reserve and, as part of the UNESCO biosphere, they just can't be destroyed by traffic. It's a nightmare route nowadays - so dangerous. But I'm sure access will be possible - maybe for a fee.

Annette (Woodside) may have some local info as I'm sure I read in an article on the Cabildo website something about the coast road being closed near (north of) Parque Hollandes but with access being made available to the residents of PH.
Annette?

I don't think anyone knows for sure what is going to happen, especially the Authorities - it appears that once one decision is made it is then overturned by another.  As far as I am aware, the coast road between Parque Holandes and Corralejo will be open for all non commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles and any vehicle 'in transit' will be prohibited.  Sorry can't be any more informative!
