Down payments on works

I know a lot of businesses here are small and therefore monies are tight ,but can anyone tell me what is the usual for making down payments for any works you may have done?   Thanks in advance :-)

I pay for the materials, and depending on overall quote 20% - 40% of labour.
Alternatively ask for a quote and time scale, and pay for the labour in stages, IE weekly or 2 weekly etc cost 20%

Hi Snowdrop, for works we are having done we have paid between 40 & 60%,  and when we have added more to the spec we haven't been asked to pay more until final settlement.

Most of the work that I have had done on my place is 50%

In my experience to stop anyone else taking the job they usually take a deposit of many clients and turn up to do the job for the one that shouts the loudest.

Beware if your not here when the work is done!
