I'm wondering how the figure for arrivals by boat is arrived at!! I thought there were only 2 ferries a week from the peninsula and even if they carry 1,000 people each (which is probably double what they have capacity for) this would only give a total of 104,000 assuming they run for 52 weeks a year, nothing like the official figure of 402,000. Am I missing something?

Its called official statistics. Read that the UK has just overtaken France in the largest world economy league. Thought that was impressive till i read in the small print that the UK included the revenue earned in the drugs and prostitution 'trades'. Apparently its an EU directive to which France refuses to comply (whats new there). You can make anything look anything by manipulating the figures. And often as not, even if they are more than aware its misleading, they do.

Impressive figures. It seems strange that out of 2,588,542 tourists, they still can't find the money to renovate the Beach in Caleta. After all, that's what they come for.

AFAIK, there are no ferries at all from the mainland that call here - the nearest they come is Lanzarote. But, and it's a big but, there are ferries to here from Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and... Playa Blanca over on Lanzarote. That last one has to be counted as that's how boat passengers from the mainland get here, plus those tourists who arrive on Lanzarote and transfer here for at least part of their holiday. But what about all the tourist day trips to Timanfaya? And the commuters who work in Arrecife? And the school kids at the British school in Arrecife? And all those laundry lorries that go back and forth several times a day? And... That lot must skew the statistics horribly.

There certainly don't seem to have been a record number in some of the bars and restaurants, from what I hear from owners.

perhaps they are counting the illegals who arrive by boat from Africa  ;D

It's all typical Political Propoganda rubbish.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy made a speach yesterday announcing:

“This is the reality. Spain is is growing faster than its European partners, and is the fastest job creator. No one can deny it.”   :o

Hmmm ...  seem to have heard David Cameron say the same thing last week ..
