OK, do I take my 3500km on the clock hire car down there or not?

The road looks like a bum nipper, but what the hell

Alas the beach is packed with folk who seem to be keen to go home in a box. This is not recommended behavior, no matter how tempting it looks

Captain Sensible

There's a new bus service that takes you there now.  It leaves Morro Jable bus station at 10.00 and 14.00 and stops off at the Morro Jable harbour, the Cemetery, Gran Valle, Puertito de la Cruz, the Jandia lighthouse and Cofete.

It's 2.50â,¬ per person per trip.  It returns from Cofete at 12.30 and 16.30.

Great photos. Not sur if the Insurance covers you on that road. I think the Bus Trip sounds safer.
The bus is a Mercedes, and was especially made for the film crew of "Exodus" when they were in Cofete. I think it's 4 wheel drive.

Magoo

No doubt about it Woe, you are not insured. I saw this bus down at the lighthouse & was keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't meet it again on the Cofete track :o

Did the drive to Cofete on our first visit to Fuerte back in 2011 (I think).  We had hired a suzuki jeep in Costa Calma, and bloke said we could co wherever we liked in it.  Probably wanted to see it gone, don't think it had seen a spanner or drop of oil since it left the factory.

Lovely drive, but unfortunately couldn't enjoy it as the jeep was eating fuel and we had the fuel light on most of the return journey.  I was bricking it for most of it thinking we were going to get stranded.

Captain Sensible

Yes,that's the one Woe - it is a four wheeled drive; and also air conditioned.

If you've got a BtF bus discount card you also get the 30% discount, so it's only 1.75â,¬ :D

Really interesting post, thanks for the info captain. Did the Cofete trip years ago, would love to do it in the bus so I could take in the scenery instead of driving.

My only worry would be "What happens if it is full on the return trip"  This bus also serves the town at the end of the point (Puerto de la Cruz?)

I did it in a Citroen C4 and few years ago, it's fine if you take your time and be careful.  Absolutely fantastic beach but not for swimming as has already been mentioned.

Sabina500

yes, Magoo, this is what it thought too, wanted to use the bus when I come over the beginning of November but staying in Costa Calma, is the bus already full when we arrive in Morro Jable????

And also? does anybody know whether the times are changing/going less frequent in winter?

thx
Sabina

Captain Sensible

The bus starts off in Morro Jable, Sabina.

Because of the success of the bus, they are thinking about expanding the service.

Magoo

Sabina.

Be a devil & take a rental car down there. If you use Orlando, you will be in the position of returning the car in a better state than when you picked it up, even if you crash it :D

Only joking  ;D  (Do not use Orlando)

Sabina500

thx

ive got only positive experiences with Orlando!!!! honestly

loads better than the tw.... from Goldcar charging you upfront the full tank and when you need only 10l don't give you anything back.

or charge you overall for a puncture (including transport back to airport from Cotillo!!! though my automobile club had arranged for the transport already free of charge!!)

Don't wish to get my wrists slapped for talking about car hire in this section, but try driving 45km without the use of a clutch ( cant stop ) & your opinion of the hire care company dims somewhat

The route's changing according to Canarias 7 today (translated by Google).

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, November 1, service buses and Cofete Puertito Cross changes the order of the stops to better meet the demands made by travelers.
Departure times and return to Morro Jable are maintained, and the location of the stops. The change refers to the bus route SUV Cofete first enter, then go to the Puertito de la Cruz, on the tip of Jandia, returning in reverse.
Varying the order of stops is made in response to suggestions from users. During the first three months, the occupation of this service is still very high, around 80-90% of seats, with 1,400 monthly average travelers. The stops are the most in demand and Cofete Cofete beach.

Sabina500

and? has anybody ever found out about the fact that the bus might be too full to take people on the way back from Cofete at 16.30????
what do they do then?

Will196

It's only about a 10km walk back to Jandia  :D :o :P
