I hate to say this but it's gonna hit the UK very soon, and hate to say even more that it's only a matter of time before it hits a school classroom or something like that, bang that's 30 people right there.
For such an "advanced" race we aren't half f***ing stupid though aren't we, even now if you wanted to catch a couple of connecting flights to Liberia and back you could, that should have been locked down months ago but oh no, there's something stopping the oh so "great" leaders of the west doing that, no doubt money....

Wait until it hits warring Arabia, there will be no holding its exponential potential there. It will rip across the whole of N Africa and across and around into Europe. The great plague, aids and malaria will look like a teddy bears' picnic.

I think if someone really wants to understand how frightening this pathogen is they need to read this acticle by Professor Piot, one of who 'discovered' ebola...and see how it is contually changing it's genetic makeup..it evolves and changes all the time..

Anyone who isn't remotely scared by this has to be living in cave somewhere with no internet. I can remember several years ago watching the Dustin Hoffman movie 'Outbreak' and it seemed so far fetched 20 odd years ago..but a real-life outbreak of the ebola virus occurred in Zaire only a few months after the film was released.... Dam scarey stuff.

It amazes me that the masses on Facebook are just totally oblivious, I've not even bothered voicing my opinion on it as, well, what's the point, no one will really care.
Apart from a few select contacts that I have on there that do have their eyes wide open on there it's pretty much business as usual, posting baby scans, funny cats and videos that are mostly stolen from Youtube...

That scares me just as much, if not more than the actual virus itself, people's lack of giving a toss.

I love things like this, I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to space and stuff like that, I remember that being on the news about when they just focused hubble on one piece of apparent empty space but seeing all those pictures of stars in different galaxies really make you realise just how small we really are

 I think we need a bit more scaremongering. Uk is not screening its borders for ebola. Seeing as Britain receives more passengers from West Africa than any other nation its madness. Bordering on criminal.

The leaders in Western Europe should take a leaf out of Nigerias' book. It is the most populous country in West Africa, indeed the whole of Africa, and has been able to eradicate Ebola using sophisticated methods including closing the borders to the rest of West Africa. I am emigrating to Fuerteventura next week, I hope it hasn't arrived on the island, being only 100miles from the coast of West Africa. I am of Nigerian origin myself, but a British citizen nonetheless.

I must admit  to initially, being one of the less hysterical in this Ebola thing. It seemed a bit of a storm in a teacup.
I haven't completely changed my mind, but, one thing has got me thinking  - the inability of supposedly 1st world Hi - Tec hospitals in the Western world to protect against infection despite state of the art 'barrier nursing' techniques. We now have infections in Spain and in the US, acquired by healthcare staff using modern technology and associated practices. Considering the number of infected patients these establishments have had to deal with, it's not a good result. No doubt, practices will be refined to reflect this, but, we're talking procedures like 'in suit' decontamination showers etc......which is OK for a few cases but won't be practical for most healthcare settings if numbers increase.
On  local level, Fuerteventura has a very capable local primary healthcare  system but relies on Gran Canaria for more complicated matters. Given the present unresolved cross infection potential  it would seem an unacceptable risk to use the usual transport methods to transfer a suspected Ebola case to G.C. If a case were to surface here, I can see logistical problems in dealing with it, if a number of positive patients presented, Fuerteventura may have severe difficulties.

No need to be worried. The infecting of staff in Spain and America shows that for each case dealt with there has been less than one contagion. If each case produces less than one contagion the illness cannot propogate.

I don't know about what the situation in America is, but the contagion in Spain would have been less likely to occur if the government had been competent.

I wasn't here in August so didn't follow the repatriation of the pair of people who were on death's door with the infection.

I thought at the time that if they were bringing them back then they must know what they are doing. They being the medics etc. It turns out that the facilities at the hospital had been closed and were being reopened on the hoof as the first patient was on their way back, and the staff who volunteered to look after the infected patients had not been given adequate training.

The scummy politicians of the government and its party in general have tried to put all the blame on the nursing assistant. If the nursing staff were as incompetent as the minister for health, then we would be in the number two.

I have to be honest, I really don't know where I would feel safer, UK or the Canaries, both places have higher risks compared to many other parts of the world to be fair.
