On our last trip to the island, in March, we managed to do the drive down to Punta de Jandia. The track there wasn't too bad for most of the way, and our hired Astra had no problems. The worst bit was the final section between the village and the lighthouse. It appears this section has had a tarmac surface laid at some time in the past, which is now in a sorry state and contains the worst potholes of the whole drive!
I have posted a few pictures from our trip (none of the potholes though) in an album in the media section of the forum, if anyone is interested.

Before making any trip off road please consult your car hire documents. Most companies will charge for recovery and repairs should you breakdown or damage the vehicle if it is taken off road [i.e. non metalled roads]. This often includes 4 + 4's

And the majority of car hire companies will tell you that you are not insured to drive the vehicle off tarmac roads - may not be true, but do read the hire agreement before going off road.

Yes I'm well aware of the terms of hire agreements.  I'm always aware of the risks and extremely careful when "off road".

But thanks for pointing it out for other readers as I certainly didn't mean to encourage anyone to blindly go. I intended to put a warning in my post but forgot to add it at the end!
