Naturists in Corralejo and El Cotillo

We are a couple who are looking forward to getting back to Corralejo beach for a week starting  next Wed 19th.
Any fellow naturists who can advise us on the best part/lagoon of El Cotillo, it would be appreciated as we have never been.

It's a bit hit and miss really. As you enter town head towards the lighthouse which is roughly to the right) Watch  out for other cars parked up on the dunes which will be on your left. Park up & take look, if you don't like it, move on a bit further.

The main lagoon near the town is very nice but every time I have been it was mainly textile.

Take care when parking up, the ground is very rough & its easy to ground the car or rip up the tyres. The nearer you get to the sea, the worse it gets. The smaller lagoons are swimmable, but note the conditions. If its rough or the tide is flowing fast, you can get washed against the rocks which are very sharp. The best time to swim is high tide when you get a good depth of water & quite a few fish to inspect. Take some plastic shoes to get to the water & note there is no natural shade, so take your own.

We are only occasional El Cotillo visitors as we always stay in German territory down South. No doubt you will get more detailed advice from the regulars who stay here

Just like virtually anywhere in Fuerteventura, park and find a beach that appeals to you. I have seen naturists on all parts of beaches of El Cotillo.  Near this town, textiles, with or without children, are quite accepting. Personally, I like the lagoons just south of the big lagoon on the north side of the town.   But if you want the softest sand, almost sensual, head south of town, down the cliffs. The beach is longer. The waves are more challenging on the south side, and you will see more surfers. But they ignore dodgy characters like me , so you should have no problems. (In all seriousness, I have rarely seen in El Cotillo the individual(s) who invite themselves into your private space like the ones occasionally mentioned near Corralejo. )

SoCal. Tried the long beach once. As you say, it's a better beach but we found it too exposed.  Members of the abrasive blasting appreciation society might have felt at home, but it was too much for us.

Also, we do like to swim in the sea as much as laying on the beach, the lagoons offer a better chance of this.

We started off going to the lagoon where the road turns away from the coast, which is nice when there's enough water. Now we tend to go all the way up to the lighthouse and to the big bay there, just round to the right. Lots of variety there - rocks for fish-watching; very shallow areas; deeper water - and easy access to both the water and the car.

A good point about the wind. The south beach works best on the less windy days.  And as for the beaches on the north side, to the east of the faro/lighthouse, they are nice. But sometimes it smells like sulfur at one of the lagoons.

Hi Sheila, we agree with you that beach and bay to the right just before the lighthouse is great, had a peaceful relaxing day there last time we were over in 2011, and as you say nice to have the car handy to save having to carry things too far.

Else where on the forum there has been a string about fines for parking cars off the road on beach areas what's the situation by the lagoons now a days?

The Sotavento/Esquinzo playas are spectacular. The problem is that I haven't found a set of accommodations in the area that are as peaceful as the ones in El Cotillo.
