Easyjet "guaranteed on board" hand luggage rules

Does anyone have any experience of how this works in practice?  Do they only start to take larger but legal bags off you when the overheads are full, or as soon as speedy boarding has finished?
Can I be reasonably sure of getting my larger bag on board if I am near the front of the "other boarding" queue?  I have never failed to get my bag in the overheads in the past, which I need to do as I need the legroom under the seat in front.

I had my first trip on Easyjet over the weekend.
Once everyone was on board the cabin crew organised a bit of running up and down finding space to put  larger items in the overhead lockers, including a couple of items that must have been pushing at the limits of the restrictions. There didn't seem to be much danger that they would actually move luggage to the hold.
Don't know if it's like that on all their flights though.

On my last trip I had speedy boarding and when I printed off my boarding pass there was a note saying I would get the larger hand luggage on board if I was an early boarder. So I think you will only have a problem if you board late and the flight is full.

To answer your questions, 1) When the overheads are full. 2) Yes, keep watching the departure boards and plan to get to the front of the other boarders queue.
I think the smaller size cabin bag will fit under the seat but the standard size will not. Gate staff should be remorseless at emplaning, every cabin bag should be checked in the template cage, blatant cheats should have their bags put into the hold and charged accordingly, like FR do. Or made to go to Benidorm.

We were on a full flight in July after they changed the rules...but no-one got asked to move their bags  :D

I think it depends on how many selfish and thoughtless people have stowed  stuff that shouldn`t be in the luggage locker. If  all the cabin baggage will fit in they will not waste time transferring stuff to the hold.
I seem to remember that EJ were going to revert to issuing seat allocations for everyone, or have I got it wrong? It must surely be quicker, preventing the log jam of panic stricken sheep milling in the isle, unable to decide where to sit.

The Scotland to England flights I was on at the weekend were certainly all fully allocated seating

I really don't know how they decide the size for cabin bags. I've not actually measured the overhead bins, but I know you can't stack two standard size bags vertically, nor one behind the other, so the space has to be made up with soft stuff.

The new 'guaranteed ' size is a startling one third less volume than the full allowable size.

Put another way, regular bag holds over half as much again than new size.

You can see the benefit to the airline!

Only 40 litre, against 63 litre

I thought all seats were allocated once you checked in ?
