Nikki Bate was swept into rough sea by Riptide at Famara Beach, Lanzarote

Seems people are still not getting the message about the waters around our islands, especially Rip-Tides.
If you haven't seen the video about Rip-Tides, here it is again. Take care.

Woe - i never tire of watching that video - it's absolutely brilliant info, excellent  ;D

That video or one similar should be made compulsory viewing for everyone before they pass immigration, just like the pre-flight cabin safety demo on the plain. If your on a ship you have to do safety drill before you reach open seas. If it saved one life then its worth a few minutes at the airport or where ever. Fair play to Woe for posting it every time there is a drowning and at other times as well.

Great video Woe - should be shown on every plane flying to the Island and at every hotel Welcome Meeting

I've just watched this video again - i never tire of it - it's a life saver for sure........

That's a most instructional video, even though I don't go in the sea much, its still incredibly useful to know what a rip is and more importantly how to spot one.

True, Paddster: there's many a slip twixt the tongue and the rip. We sure need a fishing/angling board on this forum.

Magoo

The sad thing is that if you keep calm & concentrate on keeping afloat, the chances are that you will end up back on the beach (unless you get washed onto rocks)

My daughter lives in Oz, & the rule is, don't panic or try to fight it. A gentle swim parallel with the shore line is usually enough to get you out

Paddster

Good advice that Magoo, trouble is,people do panic and that's how we get the tragedies......
