Easyjet new hand baggage size

This may have been posted before so my  apologies if it has been. Easyjet have a new hand luggage size from 2nd July.

We were  talking about this just this morning Fi, the "new" EJ size is just 10cm longer than FR anyway so the Cabinmax bags should be ok. If you fly hand luggage only and check in on line it means that the gate staff will have to invigilate this, not easy to do with the pressure to meet the slot, the last thing they want is a pile of bags to rush to the hold. It also begs the question of a bag going into the hold and the owner being able to absent himself between the gate and the plane somehow. The overhead lockers should be kept for hand luggage only, no coats etc.

The article you've linked to is incorrect, as it talks about "how to beat the baggage charge". But there isn't a charge at all!  EasyJet are simply saying that if your hand luggage is bigger than their new size limits, they may not be able to guarantee finding space for it in the cabin, in which case they'll put it in the hold at no extra charge.

The whole thing would be so much easier if people didn't try to sneak on with obviously oversized hand luggage.  If more airlines policed their own rules properly, it'd be easier for everyone.

I couldn`t agree more with your last paragraph tiger,  it`s always the selfish few who spoil it for everyone else. Nothing flies for free, everyone sneaking a few kilo`s extra aboard could soon result in an extra payload of 1000 kilo`s.

I have just printed my boarding pass for August. It notes I can have hand luggage of  the old dimensions but make sure I board early to ensure I do not have problems. So if you buy an expensive seat and board early you can have a larger bag.  The annoying thing is I bought a smaller case last week.

Just a thought - what happens if you turn up with a hold luggage sized case at the gate - will they still put that in the hold for free?

That is what the easjet man said on tv the other day. He said it would probably be only 6 or so cases that would have to be stowed when there is a problem.
